Hi Globetrotter,
Thanks for starting this goal. I had a lot of fun remembering stuff from my childhood, and hope to share this list with my children someday.
Hi Globetrotter,

This song reminds me of the fiddle music that my Granparents liked to listen to. Once I get this song in my head it’s hard to get it out! LOL.
I found this web site that has songs about Canada. There are other songs for teaching kids the alphabet and other stuff. It’s actually a neat web site and you can sample songs.
Land of the Silver Birch (Traditional, Canada)
My paddle’s keen and bright
Flashing with silver
Follow the wild goose flight
Dip, dip and swing
Dip, dip and swing her back
Flashing with silver
Swift as the wild goose flies
Dip, dip and swing
Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom
High on a rocky ledge
I¹ll build my wigwam
Close to the water¹s edge
Silent and still
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom
My heart grows sick for thee
Here in the lowlands
I will return to thee hills of the north
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom
Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom
Ha! ha! All of these childhood memories are coming back to me, and it’s really fun writing them down! :-)
I used to eat Shreddies for breakfast, and still do on occassion. Getting the right consistency with the milk was always a challenge. LOL.
I remember eating Nanaimo bars at Christmas time. Yum! About 5 years ago, I tried making these when I was in Australia, but had trouble finding all of the ingredients. Graham crackers/ wafers/ crumbs, and custard powder were difficult to find.
I remember doing a mini-run in elementary school. I think that was usually in September when school first started.
I remember hearing about Ogopogo and Lake Okanagan. I wasn’t scared, just curious as to whether or not Ogopogo really existed and tried looking for it.
I started learning French in school in grade 4. It was one of my favourite classes. I hope that someday my children will learn both languages. I’m not fluent in French, but wish that I could be.
