Go to an outdoor cinema

Found out that every summer, the Roman Theatre in Arles is turned into an open air cinema as part of a film festival. For a week, you can see Hollywood epic films in a wonderful setting.

Frustratingly, the festival ends the day before I arrive. The last film in the programme this year is Gladiator – how wonderful it would have been to have seen this from inside a Roman ruin!

I nearly managed to complete this goal this week! There was a free film showing in central London, but when we arrived the queue to sit down in the mini-arena was so long that it became obvious that we wouldn’t be able to get in! Eventually we managed to get close to the entrance and half glimpse the screen, but couldn’t really hear much.

“see a movie at a drive-in theater” but I think that “outdoor cinema” is a better description of what I want to do. I found out today that in summer there are alfresco cinemas at venues in central London (at Somerset House and Hyde Park). So fingers crossed I’ll get to complete this goal within the next few months :)
