being my own hero 16 months ago

I want to loose 100 lbs in the next year. yikes Am I really here? oh yea… stats: mom, 2 kids, married, 5’7 46 years old. We have moved 4 times in the last 6 years for my husbands job. My kids are great straight A students with great manners and bright futures. (ages 13 and 15) So it in now time FOR ME! I never had any real opportunitys when I was a kid so I have made sure my kids have had as many opportunitys as I /we can give them. But I have completley lost myself in the shuffle of my familys lives. I don’t want them or me to be embarrassed about my weight. Plus I need to be a good role model for them. I have been watching the Olympics and thinking of how they lift us all us with their heroic efforts. Watching the world come together and get along long enough to field these athelites has been so inspiring. How do I inspire myself to be able to really live some kind of training? me inspiring me. hummmmmm…. I would love to be my own hero. I love my family, but only I know what I need. Expecting anyone else to be a hero for me seems like a cop out. I can do for other people, why can’t I make that effort for myself? And will I ever learn to spell?????

here it goes

Eat your Spinach 2 years ago

I have to say something about what I eat.

I went Vegan in September (and I always hated when the veg-heads talked about how great it is; but here I go).

1. I eat more than I did 3 months ago when I (regrettably) still hadn’t actually committed to doing something about it.
2. I only today began exercising (hopefully regularly).
3. I’m conscientious about what I eat (I eat a lot and I eat a wide variety of things) so that I don’t get bored.
4. I have lost 20 pounds in just the last 45 days. I have exercised – probably 5 times in that time.

I feel great, I don’t think I look thinner yet; but I can already wear pants that were too big for me in July and August, and I’ve got more energy and vitality than I know what to do with.

I have to go grocery shopping a lot more now, than I did (fruit and veggies spoil – so no more 2 week shopping trips); but I’m also saving a ton of money by avoiding McNasty’s and their ilk. And since there are only 3 or 4 things at the Quikie-Mart that I can eat, I pretty much save a bundle of dough there too.

Vegan restaurants are costly; but you’re not supposed to eat out every day anyway. I’m going to be putting up a cooking blog of all the things I personally prepare and enjoy; but until then, yahoogle “vegan recipe”.

No matter what you think about it now – I recommend you give it a shot. So long as you don’t become one of those sickly peanut-butter and jelly vegans, eating Ramen noodle without the seasoning and sandwiches for every meal; and as long as you get a good daily multi-vitamin (you only really have to worry about B12, and D-if you don’t get much sun, but it’s good to take the complex variety anyway), I don’t see how you can go wrong. Message me with any questions. Or visit my blog, Genius, Power, Magic and drop me a line there.

I’m always willing to lend a hand (or an ear).

Not the most magnanimous of beginnings... 2 years ago

It’s been one week since I “committed” to this goal; and I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I haven’t really made any progress. I didn’t begin my workout routine until Monday. Tuesday I didn’t have time for it. Today I overslept. While my diet was already one of moderation (my problem seems to be what I eat, not how much); I haven’t made any changes to the menu.

I hope I’m not bringing anyone down. I’m writing this to own up to this set-back. I’ve got to be responsible to someone else, I think, if I’m going to see this through. So… where do I go from here.

Since I didn’t work out this morning, I’m just going to do the workout this evening, after work. It’s really going to cut into other plans; but I’ve got to do it if I want to lose the weight. Maybe the discomfort this causes me will help motivate me to get up in the morning when I’m supposed to and get moving.

Here’s a few quick numbers: I’m 5’8”. I weight 271.2 lbs (as of this morning). See ya in seven.

Lose 90 lbs. 2 years ago

I’m only 5.4 and currently weigh in at 225. I was 224.5 yesterday but gained half a pound in the last 24 hours somehow. Yes, I’m a believer in weighing daily. I just started Nutrisystems last weekend. Since starting that, I’ve lost about 4 lbs. I’m not crazy about most of the food, I have to admit. Some of it tastes good, but some of it is downright nasty! Stay away from their tuna casserole! It looks like and has the texture of gray mystery baby food and tastes even worse! Also, I have allergies to tomatoes as well as tomatoe sauces, etc. The majority of the dishes I get from Nutrisystems are tomatoe based so I’m constantly hivy. This was the first batch I ordered and I got two weeks free. Unfortunately, the free food they send is not what you order so you get the stuff you never wanted. I was thinking of going ala cart but my brother said it’s much more expensive that way and it’s already over $300.00 a month! I’ve never spent more than $150.00 on my food for a month before! I may have to quit the Nutrisystems due to some unforeseen plumbing and other house repair bills as well as vet bills that have cropped up. Can’t afford all of it! I want to be healthy and fit though, so will keep trying on my own. My problem is when I get tired and bored, I crave carbs and sweets. I have a new job where I can’t eat at work though, so that will help some. I would love to lose at least half of my goal by Christmas. That would be 45 lbs.

the Quest continues 2 years ago

So, I have been doing pretty well. I have been watching what I eat and been trying to exercise as often as I can fit it into my schedule. Today, for the third time ever in my entire life, I jogged a mile, without stopping and walking!! I am so-o-o-o-o-o thrilled! Anyway, I have lost 14 pounds so far! Woo hoo!
