see Thyrfing live

I was shocked to find out that Thomas Väänänen has recently left Thyrfing. He is a great vocalist and a large part of Thyrfing’s appeal to me was a result of his voice. Thyrfing’s second guitarist also left the band at the same time.

Apparently they split ways in good terms but I’m not at all happy about this. I have to hear how the new vocalist will fit into the band and decide if I’m still willing to be their fan. Sadly I never had the chance to see Thyrfing live while Thomas was in the band.

I’m not sure what will happen to this goal. It would still be nice to hear my favorite Thyrfing songs live, but if the new vocalist is not good enough, I will give up on this and keep listening to their cds with Thomas on vocals.

Thyrfing is probably the second most influential band in my life (after Metallica). By listening to Thyrfing I developed an interest for heavier stuff and went on to discover some good scandinavian metal bands. I’ve never seen them live because they rarely do gigs in Finland and they haven’t played anywhere near the place I live.
