How I did it: With a couple of friends becoming more interested in anime, it was easier to get recommendations, and we often watched anime during our regular video night (in lieu of a science fiction series). It does help with learning Japanese, although the language is not necessarily in common, daily usage in Japan (especially in business). Read how I did it…

After having enjoyed very much watching Whisper of the Heart the previous week I decided to watch another anime by Studio Ghibli today.
And again, while very different, this was very enjoyable. They’re so good at capturing subtle moods.
Funnily enough again I have a little back story on this: When it first came out in ‘93 I was asked if I could translate the title. And since there was kanji involved I was very proud to have come up with “I Can Hear the Ocean” for “Umi ga Kikoeru”. I see it’s now translated as “I Can Hear the Sea” or even “Ocean Waves”.
But finally having seen it now I still like my title better <g>.
- I was reminded of a certain summer vacation several years ago
- I remembered having read Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women on that vacation and having liked it a lot
- Now the reason I brought this book in the first place is because talking about it with a friend some months before that, I found out I already knew the story
- Turns out I had seen Little Women in an anime version long before I knew it was based on a book
- Yesterday I was on Wikipedia looking at these things and saw that the character designer that did that, Yoshifumi Kondō, also did Whisper of the Heart
Easy ! lol
So I’ve just finished watching it and it is a very beautiful movie.
I forget how heartwarming these can be. Good stuff.
Aki is on the computer

I’ve finised NANA (I’m back reading the manga as well) and Genshiken and I’ve started watching Monster again but I don’t think I’ll finish it for a while. (It’s long and intense and amazing so I want to savour it.) I’ve watched some Fruits Basket, but I don’t think it’s really my thing. Not sure if I’ll continue. There’s also a web series called Eve no Jikan that I’ve really been enjoying… I just wish it didn’t take so long for the episodes to come out. =[
but i want to watch much more. ive only finished a few series and i would like to finish up the 14 series or so i have started and then watch a whole bunch more XD. hopefully i can work in an episode or two a day.
Anime i want to finish in the next few weeks:
- Death Note (23/37 complete)
- The Wallflower (17/25 complete)
- .hack//SIGN (13/26 complete)
- .hack//Roots (10/26 complete)
- TOKKO (6/13 complete)
Anime i want to start soon:
- D.Gray-man
- Code Geass
- Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
I really like anime but haven’t been able to see much of it lately. There are a few I want to rewatch (Trigun mainly), some I want to continue watching (Bleach, Naruto and One Piece), and some I want to watch for the first time (Hellsing, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied, Ninja Scroll, Akira, Full Metal Alchemist, Rurouni Kenshin, Grave of the Fireflies).
Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!
I just watched this short movie, the first new anime for Dragon Ball in twelve years !
It was fun the see all the guys again :)
on the big screen last week, I’ve thought of it on several occasions and so just ordered the DVD, as I wanna see it again !
And I enjoyed it. The original series is now almost 13 years old, but especially the designs of the “angels” withstand the test of time and stand out from pretty much everything else in the genre.
