Well, that was a blah experience. I mean they look nice enough but not beautiful.
I used a kit someone gave me as a gift. They are made from citric acid, baking soda, some floral bits (mostly lavender and rose) and a “romance blend” of essential oils. I was tempted to throw some french pink clay in there to brighten them up, but I feared that it would make the bathtub an ugly mess. French pink clay was the colouring agent I used in the Breast Cancer fundraiser soap and I really liked the colour(bright and happy, but natural).
I’m going to use them as little prizes for a thing I’m doing at work. Overall, I think they turned out ok, just not great and I would probably get more excited if I actually planned to use them for myself :) Worth doing, just because I’ve never done it before and now I know how (and really quite easy).

Well, the bombs dried without cracking…but the one my son packed wasn’t quite packed enough, so it settled creating a sort of dent in the side of things. The ones I made I packed pretty hard, but I guess you need to pack really really hard to prevent dents in the bottom. They fizz nicely though! I need to try a different bomb recipe and see how it comes out!

The first attempt at bath bombs! I’m not considering this a complete success until they fully dry… but they look pretty good so far, especially with a little helper! Here’s a pic.
I used the recipe from the download at www.coastalscents.com
The recipe contained shea butter, and called for epsom salts (I had some lavender scented Dead Sea epsom salts), and used orange essential oil and sweet almond oil among the other ingredients. I only used about 1/4 tsp of the Wilton coloring.
It was remarkably easy to whip up, and the molds were awesome. I had problem with the first one I made…I took it out too quickly and it crumbled in my hand. The key is gently and slow removal from the molds! The recipe I had would have made 4 bath bombs but some material was spilled by a certain little one, so I had 3 1/2. I have a 5 lb bag of the citric acid, and a pound of the shea butter, so I figure I can make 100’s of bath bombs!
I figure in terms of what Lush charges for theirs, I have about $21 worth for low cost in the picture!

I got some fantastic molds that were supposedly featured on Martha Stewart reminiscent of the Lush bath bomb shape from
www.coastalscents.com
along with a ton of citric acid which was very hard to find in the local craft stores and a pound of raw shea butter. I also got two wilton colorants but I bet you could find them at a craft store in the cake making section. It is the “Icing Colors” concentrated paste. The website recommended these for colorings for bath bombs so giving them a try. You can make more natural ones too, but I just wanted some for kicks. I just have do decide if I want to scent this initial batch or not with some essential oil. I’m hoping to pick an easy recipe then build some nicer ones from there. We’ll see how it goes! Perhaps this weekend! DH thinks I’m crazy, and my son is ready to help…he’s so excited. I think he thinks it “explodes” in the bath so he is anxious to take a bath with one and see what happens…LOL!

Went ahead and took the plunge…bath bomb supplies ordered from coastalscents.com they have a great bath bomb mold. I found a few other sites with great ingredients, but I felt this one had the best start up materials. Although not very expensive, this was a big step for me, and a huge step in completing this goal!

Went looking for bath bomb supplies and found little to nothing at the local craft store. Will have to order online. Sigh…
