Worth doing!

Writing, like all things worth doing, requires practice. I’ve learned through both school and college, but nothing has helped me improve more than by commenting and debating on internet forums. In nearly every popular forum on the internet, there are off-topic areas in which you can debate and discuss current events and philosophy. It is often a dog eat dog world where the slightest spelling mistake or grammical error can cost you some if not all of your credibility. This is harsh, dirty and real training for what people expect of you professionally. Pactice and you will succeed.

But How?  — 3 months ago

I haven’t written anything much since NaNoWriMo in November. To get myself going, I’m thinking of signing up for another creative writing class at the local community college, but I can’t really do so until the fall semester. There are plenty of classes in the summer, but they are only 8 weeks long and the last thing I want when I’m taking a writing class is to feel rushed. That leaves me with nothing until August. What should I do for practice until then? A list:

- freewrite in paper journal
- write Yelp reviews
- start writing regular entries in my LJ again, just to get back into the habit of writing daily
- more 43T entries!
- book reviews for a website of some sort…not sure which

If you have any other ideas for me, please do comment!

Improvements!  — 4 months ago

Well I have always loved writing. English was my best subject and I also did a course for writing too. I like writing poetry and short stories at the moment.
I would really like to improve my writing skills so I can write more exciting stuff.
Things I could do would be:
1. extending my vocab
2. writing more even if I don’t think it is good, so I can work on it later
3. read more to get more ideas
Will keep you posted.
Thanks for reading,
Micky

I took a class recently. It made me very aware of all the grammer mistakes I make. I really want to be able to hold my own in this area. Maybe even be able to write a short story.Or a very entertaining letter.

Worth doing!

i don’t think im born to be a writer. i can’t write a poetry (i tried, it turns out to be real corny), academic essays are okay but don’t ever mention fiction =X).

maybe i should start writing children books.

but still, at least i improve (a lil bit) over the years.

so im ticking off this goal to make rooms for more challenging goals!

Worth doing!

I’ve been writing very well lately. My journal entries have been weak and lacking in detail, but what’s written in my Travis Notebook is deeper and more personal. My thoughts are “profound,” as Travis described them a long time ago when I showed him a poem.

It’s just that by the time I get to my journal I’m done with blogging, done with the notebook, and my hand is tired and head drained…

Perhaps I should go to the journal before other things.

Let me start  — 8 months ago

I am industrial engineer. I came London two weeks ago to improve my English skills as well. So I have only one year. I have joined a n English course. I had an exam and I learned that my English level is intermediate.
It is very good experience being in England to learn English, but I think it will be slower than I hope. So I need to increase up my learning speed as I can.
Consequently I’ve tried to find way to solve this problem. I found this web site 5 minutes ago. I think you should help me. What can you offer me?

I have the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people. Folks outside of the IT group at work really appreciate it and I appreciate being appreciated =)

Some recent samples of my e-mail snippets that have received comments specifically on the understandability:

There was more data added to the screen when you click the button. It has to run around all over the database to grab stuff to show you, so that’s why you’re seeing such a huge slow-down from the previous release. We’re going to try to make it more efficient… maybe make it run around to less places, maybe do something faster… we’re on it. =)

And this one shocked even me. It just came flowing out like stagey Shakespeare trash:

I found the problem. It’s just one little setting in the database, but it’s so deeply entrenched within the bowels of yon database, ne’er to be extracted for love or for money.

What’s weird is, I thought that was a line from some book or play. But I googled it and found that the exact phrase doesn’t return anything, so I guess it’s mine =)
