i have so many secrets but i either have no time to make them or when i check postsecret everyweek, some one already wrote it for me and sent it…like they have the same exact secret as i do…and since it’s already been shown, i don’t want to send one just like it again.
How to make my own postsecret and send it
How I did it: First, I thought long and hard about amusing and interesting secrets I have. I tend to enjoy irony, and so I made my secret ironic and amusing. It is something I have never told anyone. I will be shocked if it makes it up onto the postsecret.com page. I'm not sure how I will feel if that happens, but that is the fun of postsecret.
First, I thought of what background I would use that pertained to my secret. I decided to make mine entirely. Some people use actual postcards and paste words or write words onto them, but I made my entirely from scratch paper. I drew a picture and then wrote my secret within the picture. I think it turned out pretty neat.
I slapped a stamp on it and then the secret sat in my car for about 3-4 months. I don't know what it was, but it seemed like every time I tried to put it in a mail box I would get paranoid that someone would see me and read the secret.
I was cleaning out my car yesterday and I finally decided it was time to let go of it. I found it and I put it in my purse.
I carefully selected the outgoing mailbox at my condo complex and I put it in there late at night last night. So no one saw me do it. I felt completely anonymous, and I think that is something that postsecret really respects and that was probably why I felt so good after I put it in the outgoing mail.
The second that I slipped it in the mailbox and I knew that I could not get it back, I felt a rush of energy. I knew that I would remember this moment for a long time and I definitely enjoyed the moment to the fullest.
Lessons & tips: -Get a stamp. To keep it simple use the Forever stamp so you don't have to worry about postage. You can get specific postcard stamps but I just used a Forever stamp.
-Remember to address it. PostSecret / 13345 Copper Ridge Road / Germantown, Maryland 20847
-Think hard about your secret, and learn to let it go. Be patient with yourself. Sometimes the secrets that are the hardest to let go of are going to feel the best when we let go of them.
-Forgive yourself if you are unable to send it.
-Give yourself time to think about your secret and how you want to present it.
-Put your postsecret in a mail box that you feel comfortable putting it in. Preferably a public mail box and not your private one if you are interested in secrecy.
-Don't give up. If one secret just won't come out of your pen then write another, try to send it.
-Let go.
