I want to travel 3 weeks ago

I want to travel all over the world and see new places and meet new people. Even though English is almost global I still think it’d be beyond cool to learn a few different languages and I will one day!

Spanish 3 weeks ago

Learning a language was something that seemed like a good idea, but too hard. For my next degree it’s required, so it gave me the perfect opportunity to do so and while challenging, also rewarding.

Haven’t decided which I like more: Spanish or Japanese. Have decided to pursue both. Fortunately in each language I possess different skill levels. So in Spanish I’ll be reading literature and conversing with the locals… as opposed to Japanese where I will be struggling on my own to get my skills up to par at conversational level… oh yah, and that Kanji thing… hehe.

Talked to a regular at my work who knows many Languages and he was excited for me, until I showed no progress and then he gave up on me. I got more determined to do this because I dont like people thinking I can’t. Whatever works. I cant wait until he comes in again and I can say a few words to him. People are the best motivators.

especially one most useful for working with minority groups in the uk! 2 months ago

I want to learn to speak another language, but I have not decided which.

I am looking into careers related to social work which involve working with vulnerable or minority groups in the uk. What would be a useful language to learn? What is the largest minority group in the uk, perhaps that would give me an indication of what would be the most popular second language to learn in the UK. Arabic perhaps? Urdu? Any suggestions anyone? I know Spanish is popular and I alreayd know the basics but I’m unsure how useful that would be to have for a career.

I do not recommend learning thai as a second language unless you get LOTS of help! This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done!

Japanese 2 months ago

I still want to learn another language. I know a lot Spanish already but I would also like to learn Japanese. I may see if I can get the Japanese Rosetta Stone and see what I can do with that.

A friend 3 months ago

directed me to Livemocha a while ago… I tried it and liked it, but got busy again with other things and didn’t stick with it.

I think I need to set a schedule to do this regularly. It might not be the best way to master a language, but it seems to be good for getting familiar with a new language… and that’s what I’m interested in right now.

Title change 3 months ago

So ths was originally Learn Arabic, but I’m having a hard time coming across resources fr that. I have th Rosetta Stone software, but that isn’t enough to learn it, and a friend of mine who is Egyptian explained to me that while it is Arabic that I was learning, it was the very proper form of it and would be similar to speaking the ‘queens english’. So I’ve decided to change this to learn a new language. I haven’t really decided which, so for the time being I’m going with Spanish, French, and German. I’m making index cards to attach to everything with the names of common tings in all 4 languages, and tehn just sticking them to them. Plus, most movies I have dvd can be watched in all 4 languages, so the more comfortable I get with the words the easier it will be to understand the movie, plus if it’s a movie i already know all the words to than that ought to help. Guess we’ll see…
