I don’t think the standard treatment of Dilation Cylinders is really all that expensive, per se. The biggest problem I face is denial and willingness to seek treatment. I think too many women refuse to believe there could possibly be anything wrong with them and automatically assume it is totally the fault of their male partner who is unable to get his erection through the brick wall of her tight vaginal muscles. So she will go years – even decades – denying she has a problem and refusing to even use the standard treatment of dilation cylinders much to the depression and desperation of her male partner or husband, no matter how desperate he may be to loose his virginity.

First and foremost, I think it’s really important for women in the know to spread the word about Vaginismus. Most women who suffer won’t understand what’s happening to them at first, and, even more damaging, many of the healthcare professionals they will turn to won’t have heard of it, either, and will make damaging misdiagnosises, or dismiss the complaint as being a simple need to “relax”. Personally, I have started a blog on the matter (Which admittedly, needs more work and attention), given a presentation about it in my public speaking course at college, and, most importantly, had candid conversations about it with everyone I know who’s been the least bit curious, in the hopes that one day, they might be able to give the information to someone who might need it, or, at the very least, listen in a more informed, compassionate way.
One day, I hope to start a fund for furthering the cause, which will focus on awareness, and also providing funds for women to go through the costly treatment, ideally at a place like the Women’s Therapy Center, where they can hopefully face their problems dead-on instead of years of trying all sorts of different kinds of therapies, only to find themselves at another dead end. However, I do take issue with the exorbinantly expense of the facility, which is why…
I’m considering going to school for psychology and becoming someone who can do the actual curing. So many areas do not have a professional who has any experience treating this problem, and I’d like to see that change. If I ever do get there, though, there’s no damn way I’ll ever charge more than I have to, unlike our long island friends.
What about you? What can you do to help further the cause?
