Three miles per my marathonrookie.com training schedule.
How I did it: I wanted to do this, so I asked a friend to join me and we did it. We trained hard for three months, running together on Sundays and made it. We were very nervous that we wouldn't do it, but we did and it felt great! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I worked my way up to the Half by starting small, I trained for a 5K and did it, then a 10K and did it, next progressional step was to do 12 weeks of solid training with tempo runs, pick ups, fartlek and long runs to build up my endurance and then Register and do it! How I did it: My boyfriend and I joined The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. They provided a running schedule and held mid-week trainings as well as long runs on Saturdays. Coaches were available for any questions or concerns. Being part of a group was really motivating and knowing that our efforts were supporting a good cause pushed us even further. The race itself was unbelievable. There were people everywhere cheering and … Read how I did it…

How I did it: Today I completed the Detroit Half Marathon, in 2 hours, 36 minutes and 29 seconds. That was just under my goal time by 30 seconds. Hooray! When I started training in June, my longest run had been a 10K. I ran with a group -- long runs on Saturdays, plus hill or speed work-outs on Tuesdays. I also ran an additional 2 or 3 days on my own. Running with a group was a great help, and I highly recommend it. M… Read how I did it…

It was about 20 degrees when I ran. I managed the gear just about right. Didn’t get overheated or too cold. Need new running shoes.

I completed it in 3.20.12! Seeing that I didn’t have much training, I’m pretty happy. I really wasn’t concerned about the time, it’s completing the race that was important to me. I honestly can’t believe I ran so long…a couple weeks ago I’d pass out from running 2 miles.
My body is aching today! The pain started from my toes (literally)...and by the time I was done it was at the base of my back. I had a strained my ankle from before so imagine the striking pain I’m getting now. There was a point of time my booty muscles were screaming “What the Hell are you doing???” LOL…but no seriously…I learnt the hard way that this wasn’t a walk in the park. I need to seriously train for the next one.
I can’t believe I’m even considering a next one! This is something that would have never been in my thoughts.
Special thanks to Todd for encouraging me!
sgrether is going to fondly remember soda for the next 365 days.
I am going to run the Mesa Falls Half Marathon August 28th, 2010. Currently, I can barely run a mile without dying and so I will be beginning training now!
I’m going to try and that’s all there is to it. I’m so not fit as I should be to complete this race but once it’s not affecting me health wise I’ll push as much to cross the finish line! This week I’m going to do some intense training….strictly running to see how far I can go. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be able to go further than at the beginning of the week. This will be interesting but I can’t wait to be a part of this.

Biking season is just about over here, though I’m thinking about getting ice tires and winter gear and biking through the winter. But for now, I’m back to building towards June’s marathon or half-marathon. I ran 30 miles last week. This week has looked like this:
Sunday – 8 miles
Monday – rest
Tuesday – 5 miles
Wednesday – rest
Thursday – 5 miles
Friday – 5.5 miles
Hope to run 8 miles again tomm. Weather pending.
