How I did it: I put one foot in front of the other....and suprised even myself. Get a support system early on if you can pull a running buddy even better! I went to meetup.com and found a running group in my area. I didn't always train with folks from that group but was encouraged that others were doing the same half marathon as I was and I did see them at the race. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I'm 22, and I've never run before, much less do anything physical. In September 2008, I started an Intro to Jogging class at my university that got us from couch potato to being able to run 3 miles at a time. After it ended, I wanted to do more! I signed up to run the half marathon at Lake Placid with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. I raised $1900 for blood cancer research and successfully… Read how I did it…

How I did it: My running partner Christine whipped me into half marathon shape in about 4 months. I never thought I’d be able to do a half marathon, and although our time was nothing impressive, it was still exhilarating!!! I plan on doing it again and I am recently back in half marathon training mode. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I trained for a few weeks, but probably not enough. I wasn't completely happy with my time, but I was glad I got the experience and now know how to pace myself better. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I ran 3-4 times a week, and my longest run before the race was 10 miles. Start slow, work up to 3 or 4, and mix up your route so you don't get bored. you can do it! :) Read how I did it…

run/walk with the group. Not as difficult as previous long runs, though those last 3 miles were hard. I think it helped that I had done a maintenance run, and, I was one of the timers to keep the 3:1 run/walk ratio. It was easier to keep going knowing when the end was coming (a walk break). I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Even though I am not fast, I am doing it.

I’m registered for the Royal Victoria Half Marathon on October 11th at 7:30 am.

Monday: Weight Training
-Leg press, Explosive lunges, Squats, Chest Press, Shoulder Press, Bicep Curls, Roman Chair, Plank, Pushups…lots.
Tuesday: Boot Camp
Wednesday: Ran 3 miles
Thursday: Ran 3 miles
Friday: 1 hour of weigh training
Saturday: 3 mile run.
This is totally ridic!
I just found out that there’s a half marathon in Lake Tahoe in 10 weeks. I am currently training for this event, running five days a week. Monday’s and Wednesday’s I ‘race’ a normal 5 or 10 k, Fridays consist of Farlek running, Saturdays consist of Hill(s) training, and Sunday’s are black-out, long running days. This is week is my second consitant week, and my long run is at 5 miles. I up my long run by 1 mile a week, which give me 9 weeks to get my mileage up before the marathon in September. I’ll run around 14 miles this week. I think its a good start considering its my second consistant week of running.

Had some kind of a major breakthrough this morning. Did ten miles in 113 minutes. I know that’s slow, but you have to consider that I started off training with not even being able to run a full minute. :) I think I can definitely pull this off by next year’s race. Maybe even consider doing the full marathon instead?

I’d taken this weekend off from running, because my hip has been bothering me. Today was my first day back, and I ran hill repeats with my running group.
It was a different hill than last time (shorter and steeper), but it went well. I did about 4.5 miles if you include warm-up and cool-down.

Got behind on reporting my training because I was out of state for a week. While traveling, I was still able to run about 2 miles a day. Since being back, my training schedule went like this:
Thursday, July 2nd – 5 mile run
Friday July 3rd – 3 hour bike ride, 5 mile run
Saturday, July 4th – 3 hour bike ride, 2 hour hike
Sunday, July 5th – 2 hour climb, 2 mile run
Monday, July 6th – 2 hour climb, 1 mile run
Tuesday, July 7th – 5.5 mile run

4 mile run/walk with the group on Sat July 4, then tonight I did an approx 3.5 mile run/walk in my neighborhood. Going very slow but still going!
I don’t really want to do this, but my wife plans on doing one this November, so I told her I’d run with her. In our other races (shorter ones, only 5k’s so far) I go at my own pace, which is much faster than her, but in this one I’ll be with her the whole way.
My plan is to only train enough for a 12k (7.5 miles) at my pace, which I’m hoping will translate into enough training to do 13 miles at my wife’s pace.
