help my husband and my son have a better relationship

We had a serious fall back today. The computer that DS uses had some bad spyware and stuff on it and DH found adult websites that DS had been to. They have had the talk before about not looking at things that he was not supposed to and we decided to trust him and check up regularly on it, but this happened yesterday. Well, as punishment DS was not allowed to use the computer. He then decided that his Dad hated him and that he was going to run away. Not a smart move. Big argument ensued. Now DS is grounded from everything. Nothing is plugged in in his bedroom, the door is to remain open at all times, he has to even be in the same room as an adult at all times except when he is sleeping or using the bathroom. He is on 24 hour survalence. I don’t know how long this is going to go on, but he definately went to far with the trying to run away. I thought the teenage years weren’t going to be that bad with him, but I guess I better get used to it. We’re in it for while now.

DS informed us tonight that he has lost 5 pounds by not drinking soda and I think DH was really proud of him. The weight issue has always been a hot topic between them. DH could stand to lose a few himself, but always gets on DS about his weight.

They have been playing WOW since 7:oo tonight. They actually planned this earlier in the week to play a certin quest tonight. One of DH’s buddies is even playing with them now. I hate to say that this is quality time, but they are having fun and talking.

My son got his own account on World of Warcraft (WOW), so now he and DH can play together. DS couldn’t wait until his dad got home today so they could play. This is the most time they have spent doing something together in a long time. They have voice chat so they can even talk while playing.

The other day they went fishing by themselves. When DS got home from school and finished his homework DH just decided to take him fishing.

DH has started collecting coins and DS has showed some interest in this hobby. It would be great if they were both into the same thing.

We also went fishing last week and both of them seemed to enjoy it. Maybe this can be something else that they can do together.

DH and I were talking about vacation today. We plan to take one week to go to the lake for ourselves like usual. The other week of vacation he wants to take our son to the lake for a few days and rent a boat so we can all go fishing. Then he wants us to all go down to Cumberland Falls so DS and I can have a day of hiking (DH hates hiking). After this he wants tospend a day at home and then go to King’s Island. That is like a whole week to do stuff with our son. In the past, DH would never plan a week of vacation around DS. This show improvment.

DS and DH are playing video games together on a regular basis now. They get along most of the times that they play games. DS has started wanting to spend more time with us because of this.

DH and DS played Gears of War on the 360 together tonight. It was even DHs idea that they play together. I believe that this is progress. DH seems to get so frustrated with our son sometimes. I wish he would spend more time with him like they did tonight.

We bought a Nintendo Wii for Christmas for the family. My husband and my son are both really into video games. We put the Wii in the family room, so maybe they will play more games together instead of going to different rooms to play games.
