Persefona is happy because she has good friends
I translated my chapters and we were approved by publishing house, now we have to put things together (and wait for those, who treat deadlines like they do not matter), especially to agree on translated vocabulary.
I was (am) really looking forward to this book, because it is really good and it is great it was going to be translated, but as it has taken more than year just to get it to this form, I lost my enthusiasm…

I never thought I would be doing this, but a conversation with a friend sparked an idea worth doing: translating a book in my native language, Spanish. It took me a 3hr drive to West Palm Beach and the great mind of my dear friend Dave to generate ideas, possibilities and most important, initiate action. Contact was made with a particular prospect, a sample transcript presented, interest and motivation followed and now I am in the process of doing the translation of one of their books! Who know what can propel from this venture, but I have an idea of what good could be :)

Hello,
I have been working as an Interpreter and Translator for the last 16 years, in the legal, medical , fine art, design, architecture and immigration fields. I also have a fine art media degree, with strong film bias, as well as long term explorarion of meditation and eastern spirituality and creative expression.
However, I am now very interested in translating particular books relating to historical records of Korean Kingdoms, for instance.
The question is: how do I go about translating works I am interested in? That is, who, and how do I propose the translations to? How do I prepare, or what am I to expect from prostective publishers or interested parties? ... In sum, all the information, tips and insightful suggestions on this matter are greatfully appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,
Suzete

After visiting my grandpa today after he passed away 2 weeks ago, i realised what a good story teller he was. Which is not so surprising as his family was so well known for their education and talents. I remembered all the stories he told, all the books he had read and then told us about. I want to find them and read them. Only problem they’re in farsi (lang. spoken in afghanistan). That’s not going to stop me, hellll no! I was thinking to start with an easy book, and try and translate it into English. I would get my mum to read me the books, explain them, and i would translate them into english. Easy yeah? Hope so :/ How do i start? Where do i start? Only thing i know is that since it’s my first i should start with an easy book.Is there such a thing as an easy book haha

popvoid is studying reflexive verbs in German.
I finished translating the Introduction and the first chapter. The intro was a breeze, but the first chapter was written in a more colloquial style and put my talents to the test. I’m translating from German, and sentence structure in German is sometimes very different from English. In a few places, I found my self thinking: “I know what this means, but I cannot for the life of me find a way to say it without completely changing the style of the story.” I press on.

I have just started translating a book. A short book. Okay, a novella. Does that count?

Hello everybody,
I am new here, but I read your comments about translating a book, this is something I was thinking about doing for a while now, but not sure where to start. Shall I contact Publishing Companies?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you
Martina
