Not giving up forever and ever... 2 years ago

Just need to focus, and right now my top priority is finishing my conversion. I’ve learned a lot of Hebrew vocabulary in terms of knowing the words to hear and say them, and I look forward to learning more, but transliteration works fine for now, I don’t have to read the words yet. Though I am really really looking forward to when I can.

I've finished this task... 3 years ago

It wasn’t easy, and I know that I will lose it if I don’t continue to challenge myself by looking at the Hebrew in a prayerbook, or on a building (trying to puzzle it out), etc. I have to keep using it. And I have my two books by my chair so I can occasionally look at them.

I must say that I enjoy looking at the Gates of Prayer, trying to figure out what they’re saying. That is soo cool.

I got some flash cards... 3 years ago

that have Hebrew words or phrases on them. They’re all connected to prayerbook Hebrew. These should be a great help!

and then I learn, most Hebrew is read WITHOUT the vowels! How do they do that??!

I have four more chapters in this book that kids itself into thinking it’s all about prayers. It’s all about prayers that I use when I study Hebrew…

One more time... 3 years ago

Each time I go to Hebrew class, I expect it’ll be my last one, as it’s so difficult and getting even harder as we get into letters that resemble the Martian alphabet. Yet I find that most of the class is in the same place I am. So I’m encouraged to go one more time. There are only 3 more classes to attend. The teacher seems determined to make it all the way through the book, in spite of the fact that most of us are falling behind. It’s quite frustrating but at least I’m not alone.

    It continues... 3 years ago

even though I converted this week. I am two weeks behind on Hebrew, but hope to jump back in and start studying the Hebrew alephbet, as of this afternoon.

I made it past the first 3 weeks. 3 years ago

    I’m impressed.

The secret is to study a little each day. I do about 3 to 4 hours a week, if you add it all up. The letters are starting to look startlingly familiar. I’m not sure how quickly I can absorb them. AND the kicker is that the teacher (Rachel) is making us put the letters together to form words….AND she expects us to remember them! Why would I need to know words…

I need to start here too! 3 years ago

I’ve learned quite a bit of Hebrew vocabulary and recognize a lot of words when I hear them or when I see them in transliteration but the aleph-bet remains a mystery to me, pretty much. I have some kids primers that I’m trying to study, I just need to make the time to do it!

but it was just too difficult to do on my own, even with recommended primers. I went to my first class last night… Well, I can’t even talk about that. Let’s just say that my only GOAL here is to learn the aleph bet. That’s it.
