I took a Holistic Nutrition course and learned about the digestive system, vitamins, minerals, complex carbohyates, whole foods, supplements, diets, nutrition labels.
The course material is basically the book – You are What you Eat. 2 years ago

It’s funny how we’re taught english, math, science, history, and geography in school, but what is really important is learning the basics to live a healthy life.
Maybe our parents were supposed to teach us this. School nurses came in a few times a year in elementary school to show us the food pyramid diagram. We have gym class, a little home economics. But importance was never really paid to those subjects. The long time home ec. teacher switched to be a guidance councellor. I guess she thought children knowing what profession they wanted to go into in life was more important.
When we’re young, it’s like no matter what we eat, our body can handle it, there are no consequences.
But my goal here has to do with knowing how the human body works. This is the shell we’re in for our lifetime. We need to know what inputs going into it is good and what is bad. What are the optimal conditions for the body?
Exercise is supposed to be good. Does everyone get around to it?
Most importantly, food is a big issue. Most of us don’t know how to cook well, and cook healthy. It’s so easy to just buy food with preservatives and fast food.
Why don’t we get right back to the basics so we can live healthier lives? 6 years ago
