I live near the historic route 66 and would love to drive along the entire highway from start to finish.

We've got a plan, Stan 8 months ago

On July 1, 2009, we’re going to be moving into an RV full time. During the school year, we’ll stay parked near my work except on holidays and weekends when we may travel. During the summers and perhaps the winters, too, we’ll be hitting the road and seeing America. Plus we’ll be spending much more time with our family and friends in TX.

During the summer of 2010, I’m hoping we’ll get to make the Route 66 trip. In June, we plan to take our RV from Baltimore to Chicago, Chicago to Santa Monica, and Santa Monica to San Antonio (approx. 3300 miles) in 12 days. We’ll stay in San Antonio for a month and a half and then head back in August, cutting across the Gulf Coast through New Orleans and Jacksonville, the up through the Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic, hitting Charleston, S.C. along the way. That drive will take us 1900 miles in 4 days.

Now to save the money we need for fuel, food, and RV site rental!

On Hold 20 months ago

Not actually giving up, but putting on hold because in my current situation it’s unrealistic. Anyway, I have another 50 things I want to do that I don’t even have posted on this site, so I’m taking down the ones that wont be achievable until the future and posting the ones I can focus on now.

I don’t know when it’ll happen, but here’s a map for reference for when I finally get down to the nitty gritty of taking the trip.

I’ve been on the Texas and Oklahoma portions, but not all the way through, just in snippets. I want to take lots of pictures of vintage neon, motor courts, and the old road!

Best thing I've ever done for myself. 3 years ago

In the midst of a horrible year in a horrible place, I took a two week roadtrip along Route 66 (on as much of the old road as I possibly could, though in places, there’s no avoiding the Interstate.) I camped all the way out and all the way back. It was the best money I’ve ever spent. I slept better, ate better-and less, saw a bunch of new states, regained some of the sanity I kind of felt like I was losing, met some really interesting people (including four 50 year old stoners in a state park in New Mexico) and saw the hometown of Mickey Mantle-even though I despise the Yankees, I have to give props to the Mick-and my first rodeo. I had a great time!

Spent 2 weeks in Oklahoma with nothing to do on the weekends. Drove old Route 66 and was bitten by the bug. Can’t wait to do Chicago to LA in a old convertible or on a motorcycle.
