9.20.09: Doing it!!!!! 2 months ago

Well, I’m doing it! I’m putting my notice in at work tomorrow, and moving to Asheville on 10/03/09!!! It’s been a LONG road, but finally I’m making it happen. Still don’t have a job, but I’m hoping by being up there for good, that I’ll have a lot more time and luck with the job hunt. I’m believing in faith for success there!

6.6.09: resumes in the mailbox! 6 months ago

I sent out 6 resumes to daycare centers in NC via snail mail, and 3 via e-mail this week! Now I am waiting for those phone calls to set up job interviews!

By July or August of 2009 10 months ago

I went there to check it out in person for a few days after Christmas. I really liked it. I lived in Charlottesville, VA a few years ago for 2 years and enjoyed my time there, but Asheville seemed to offer a lot more in terms of employment. I am finishing a graduate degree in health care and plan on moving there shortly after.

12.13.08: getting closer! 11 months ago

Well, I am in Asheville this weekend to visit! I came last month too. My strategy to reach this goal is to come at least once a month to visit the church up here that I will be going to, and start networking for friends, job advice, and housing possibilities. I’ve already created a little network of people I stay in touch with and am serving the church when I can! The service last night was out of this world. AMAZING. I totally know I belong in this city.

My goal is to move here sometime between July – September 09… only about 6 – 8 months from now! WOOHOO! I think this goal is the most exciting one I’ve got going right now. I love Asheville!!!

Asheville, here I come 12 months ago

My husband and I are planning on relocating to the Asheville area next June. But would appreciate any advice offered. Which part of town to live or not live. Restaurants and coffee shops. Best place for live music. My husband is looking at bartending, and i am looking for social services positions. So, any advice in that arena would be much appreciated as well!
Cheers!

Jobs in Asheville ... 13 months ago

My husband and I frequently discuss the possibility of moving to Asheville. We have lived in South Florida for almost 6 years, and we love it here - the weather, the beaches, etc. BUT, we often think that Asheville may be a better place to raise our kids. While the home prices seem more affordable and the general cost and quality of living seem much better in Asheville, the one problem we keep running into is FINDING JOBS. Does anyone have any recommendations? My husband is an art director for a weekly alternative newspaper here in Fort Lauderdale, and I am a language arts teacher and writer. I know there are a lot of artists in Asheville, which is why I think we RARELY see job opportunities for my husband - there is probably such a low turnover rate because everyone who has jobs in Asheville wants to keep them! Please offer any advice you may have …

I need a more progressive environment. The deep south can be stifling, both in humidity and in culture. I’ve never even been to Asheville, but it looks great.

Headed for Asheville 20 months ago

I really love Asheville, the people, the mountains, the live music scene, the arts and the feeling that the imagination and the individual are celebrated all contribute to that feeling of rightness,a place to live out a contented and interesting life. I am in the process of buying a house there and hope to be a full time resident by June.

maybe not 2 years ago

i have made peace with where i now live. i have an apartment that i love. adopted 2 feral kittens and love them. i am happier in some ways than i’ve been in a very long time. i feel more safe and secure than i’ve felt in a very long time. so…asheville? maybe later…
