I've done nothing with this  — 1 year ago

Probably the most I’ve been out of my comfort zone this calendar year was negotiating with the Rabbi on his contract. I have his evaluation coming up in a few weeks, and I think that’s going to be a real treat, too :-P But those sorts of activities come with the territory of being president of the congregation – it’s something I have really no choice in doing, if I want this general leadership role.

If you look at activities that are voluntary, though – well, I’ve done nothing with this, really. Look at my next chosen activity here: I don’t want to waste a Sunday morning that I could be bicycling going to a church service that will probably be contrary to nearly every single one of my spiritual beliefs and values.

The reality is, I’m probably fairly happy with where my limits are, which is why they’re where they are.

Ah well, at least adopting this goal gave me a chance to think about what my limits are and where they’re located.

Wow i did a test run this weekend about 5 mile at alligator hill.. wide trails made it nice to talk with others backpacking with us!
but up hill is a pain my legs hurt but i have been working on them now i need to work on them even more so yeah! wow!
it’s fun tho I think it will be more rewarding once i really backpack!
but up hill i pushed myself so hard and I DID IT! eyah! no trail will beat me I just can’t let that happen!

Worth doing!

To me pushing my limits means going that extra mile, pushing that extra pound of weight, spending that extra hour at work that i hate and resist the temptation to give up.

One down, at least three more to go  — 1 year ago

I did the women’s craft circle, and lived to tell the tale.

What’s next? I thought about wearing a hijab, per this set of comments (http://www.43things.com/entries/view/1391923#comments), but I don’t know if this is quite the limit pusher here as it would be if I were living in Texas, where Fereshteh lives. We have a relatively high Muslim population here, and I see women in modest Muslim dress daily. But it got me thinking, and I’ve decided what my next limit pusher is going to be.

I have a co-worker who belongs to a mega-church, run by local televangelist Casey Treat. I’m going to go with her, if she’s OK with it, to a Sunday service.

I just read what they believe on their website, and I don’t agree with any of it. Of their seven values, the only one I hold is, “Through renewing of the mind, your life is transformed to do God’s perfect will.” And that’s only because, I suspect, I have a completely different understanding of what God’s will is, and what it means to renew the mind.

I will do this with as open mind and heart as I can muster. And I’ll report back.

I just want more. More experiences. I want to be more than what I am.
