I’m dancing a lot, so I guess I can count that. Otherwise, it’s hard to keep up with the schedule. But I am going to have a new and exciting goal that’s going to be way better! Yay!

Here is the painting I’ve been working on. I was going to go at it with some acrylic medium to add texture to the tree tops, but I’m reconsidering. The picture is a little dark in the half light, so I think I’ll brush some simple stylized ‘moonlight’ into the treetops. I want it to still be pretty dark and a little foreboding. This is based on a waking nightmare/vision I had two weeks before my wedding. Only a few people know what the trees were made out of in that dream.
It’s all I can do to drag my sorry but to the theater. But now my play has closed and I have nothing on the horizon (theater-wise)for a few months. I am really going to try to be disciplined about this!
My schedule has been unexpectedly twisted about. That said, I have gotten some writing in. I am also going to change this goal to ‘do something with my art(s)’ instead of ‘write’. Sometimes, I write for a few minutes, then get inspired to draw. Ideally, the drawings will become paintings. As long as something internal becomes an external expression, I think it should suffice.
So, last night I sketched an idea for my next (read SECOND) painting. It’s exciting because I see a style emerging. It’s very simple and a little dark. I just need to finish my first and buy a canvas. I will be working on the big FIRST painting tonight (no rehearsal and lover has a show). I can’t wait!
Then I realized that my time between work and rehearsal is a little crowded for the next couple days. However, I can resume writing tomorrow afternoon. When I did write the other day, I actually wrote about something other than writer’s block, which is a huge victory. I wrote two hand-written pages on a character, and I still have some left in me put down when I return to it. Setting a small amount of time aside is one of the best tools I’ve come across. When I went to bed that night, I though, “If I have done nothing else today, I wrote something.” It’s a wonderful feeling.
This will be my first step in breaking my writer’s block. I’ll have enough time to go home after work, change clothes if I need to, even eat something quickly. After, I can get prepared for rehearsal, eat then if I want, take care of my kitties, and get to the theater. I’ll set aside a different floating half-hour slot for the weekends because I need pockets of unstructured days in my week.
