I haven’t thought about this goal in a while. Let’s put it aside for a bit and see if it becomes important again later on.
How I did it: Wow! I did this without even realizing it. I actually visited a local Florida winery twice in the last couple of months. The first trip included a free tour of the winery and an educational video about how the wines are made.
We then were given the opportunity to taste several different types of wines as well as given instruction on how to smell and taste them.
Yay!!!

I’m a little bit upset that the wine and cheese event didn’t go as well as I would have liked. Here’s what I didn’t like so much:
1) The way I had it scheduled inbetween work: So work from 4-12… get home, go to bed at 4am, wake up for work at 7:30… work from 9-4… go to wine tasting… stumble my way home, go to bed… work from 0-9 (+ one hour for time change)
Not the event’s fault but life factors anyways.
2) I started with 15 coupons, but it seemed that everything cost so many coupons, especially the stuff I really wanted to drink (ie: ice wine) Ah well, I still got tipsy, see note above ;)
3) It was a Quebec wine and cheese event. Translated this means that everyone speaks with a Qc accent, which is MUCH quicker and different accent than what you generally hear in Montreal. So that meant that I had to ask people to speak slowly so that I could understand.
4) Unlike the other event I went to (and even that one was a bit over my head with all the questions) I felt really lost in people’s explanations about what kind of grape or what things were exactly. Add that on to the problem with understanding the Qc dialect of French and I really felt like a fish out of water.
All of this being said, I did manage to find this goat cheese that I liked so much I picked up some of it. There was one that was a sort of dessert version with cranberries and porto jam-like stuff on top of it. The other was a roasted red pepper topping. Both were very yummy, and if I can wait that long will appear at my wine and cheese party. Apparently they sell them in regular stores, so if not I can just go to the store and pick up some more.
So that made me happy, even if the whole event didn’t really.

So I went on Tuesday to the wine tasting. It was a meeting of the St James Litterary society, so there were a lot of older people there. It was pretty rainy outside, got pretty wet just going to the bank and there, then warmed up with the wines.
We had a sparkly wine, two wines and two reds.
I enjoyed the whites but I’m not a red drinker so I thought that they were pretty meh, but I learned about a wine type that’s less tanniny so I might try that for the party.
The first white was from Italy and was called: Pianco Blanco. It was a mix of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay (I think). The second one was from France and was called (no joke) Arrogant Frog, also a mix of Chardonnay and something else that I can’t remember. I liked both of them, although the first one was more buttery, which I enjoy.
Also wanted to spread some linking love for the event that I’m going to after work tomorrow:

It’s always funny that when you focus on something how things just align to make it happen. In this case, there’s not classes but wine tasting events that just seem to be lining up for me.
There’s one right by my house on the 28th with commentary from a newspaper person.
I walked into the SAQ today to go hunting for wine inspiration for my wine and cheese party and found a flyer for Quebec wine and cheese event. I have to change my schedule at work so that I can go at a reasonable time, but I don’t think that that will be too much of a problem. Might even invite some people from work to come along with me :) Just called to invite my Dad, haven’t seen him in a while, would be fun to go with him.

I’ll do it later. No time now. Need to go. bye.
I’ve done this (i think) last summer while we were visiting a special wine house… They were giving us all the wines for free, (We were a big group) and they were also telling how to understand if a wine is good or not, or things like how to hold a wine glass etc.
But the funniest thing is I don’t remember anything because the wines were just wonderful and especially because they were free, i drank quite a lot with an empty stomach…
At the end of the class I was completely drunk :D
i think i should do this once more…
itgoesto11 time to do some of the things I've been putting off...
I took one earlier this year and found it very informative, not to mention tasty. I learned a ton about the dirrerent types of grapes, casting and aging. The class I took was a wine and cheese class and it was a perfect combo.
Took an Intro class that we really enjoyed. The next class we took wasn’t so thrilling. We’ve got one more to take, and after that, I think we’ll be all done with fancy class-learning and ready to move back to the at-home-testing stage for good.
