and it was electronic. I much prefer the rejections that someone has taken the time to put on paper and mail to me. Even receiving a few helpful comments would be nice. =(
How to have my writing published
How I did it: I wrote my first two chapters and my last one to have ready for anyone who asked for them after a query letter. I thought about something I'd want to read but hadn't seen written about yet. Then I wrote query letters and waited.
My last chapter changed dramatically and I had to ask for a deadline extention, but the publisher was willing to work with me to make sure they got the best book I could write.
Lessons & tips:
- Write what you know but make it something that people haven't heard much about.
- Be prepared to hear a lot of nos.
- If it's your first book, be prepared to do it for the foot in the door and not the money.
- Look for new or small presses who may not get as many queries
- Set a deadline for yourself that is sooner than the publisher's deadline.
- Understand there is a long time spent in editing and plan your release date accordingly.
Resources: The internet to do the loads of research. I researched my topic and publishers.

I have been writing for as long as I can remember. Done a creative writing course a couple of years ago and got an insight into the real me and what I can achieve by writing. My folders are piling high and completed pieces are mounting. I am ready to face the world and all it’s criticisms. I will have something published by the end of this year.
I will publish the kid’s story about my dog and the hundreds of poems I have stashed away…someday.
I want to get my feminist view point style writing published in feminist magazines/ books.
No matter what others say, if your writing is good, do NOT let them discourage you! Protect yourself and your writings early on with copyrights, etc. Whatever you do, make sure you’ve got someone willing to go over it and make sure it’s written properly. A good editor is worth their weight in gold (if I do say so myself)... If you want this dream, aim high and give it all you’ve got! Millions of People love to read…so many topics to choose from, certainly there’s a market for what you have to say! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!
