"Best game EVER!!!"
How I did it: 7 days because of building the field. We didn't follow the international quidditch rules because we had smaller kids involved as well. Used swim noodles for brooms (safer) and the beaters (some of the smaller kids) ran around throwing soaking wet splash balls at everyone. The snitch was actually a golden dollar that had been dropped in the grass by the heads of house. A seeker (also a kid, but a bit older - 10-12 years) for each team would comb the field constantly looking for the snitch. Hula hoops on PVC pipes provided the hoops, and we added a chaser so that there were 4. Chasers were allowed to take 5 steps and then had to pass the ball to someone. Beaters were pretty much unlimited since they were little (6-7 years old). A match consisted of two 10 minute halves with a 5 minute intermission. In 4 matches, the snitch was never found - very hard to do! Once, even the house heads had trouble finding it after the game, and we knew where it was hidden!! Excellent game!!
Lessons & tips: Don't be afraid to adapt it to the age group you are working with - it was so much fun!!!
Be sure you have heads of house who can referee the game! Ours got pretty rough by the 4th match, and I was blowing the whistle lots for taking too many steps, or tackling instead of batting the quaffle away!
Resources: The Harry Potter books - of course!!!
