I just went to a three-day training seminar. I made an effort to meet some of the other attendees, instead of just going off solo on breaks and lunch. I’m still not at the point of working the room, but I’m getting a bit better.

Unfortunately, a misdelivery kept me from getting Jeanne Martinet’s The Art of Mingling before the holiday season. I’ll post my impressions as I read it.
So I have been meeting a ton of new people lately and am feeling confident and at ease around them, I think the big change in me was that before I was trying so Desaparetly hard to be like, and now, I realize that if someone doesn’t like me, its not the end of the world, and with my extra confidence boost, I found that A LOT of people actually like me when I am not hiding in the corner behind my hair!

I started a new job this week. I’m definitely doing better at remembering to make the “getting to know” process a two-way street. In the past I have answered questions about myself, but never asked any. I think I was concerned that they might feel I was prying. Now I realize it’s just an honest effort to get to know someone, and perfectly acceptable.

I just realized that I have managed to introduce myself and get to know several people at the gym I joined at the end of July. Normally, I would just show up to my group exercise classes, do the thing, and hit the road. Somehow I’ve managed to get to know almost all of the regulars to my Zumba class, and a little about each of them.

I’m really lousy at introducing myself to people and just getting to know a little but about them. I went to a wedding reception this weekend where I knew a handful of the 70 some attendees, and just generally wandered around. I want to get to the point where I can introduce myself to the strangers at the event, remember their name, and see if I can’t find some common bond.

And maybe they were better than I gave myself credit for in the first place. As with some other goals, this will just naturally happen when I make progress with some of my related goals.
Slight social anxiety at times (e.g. class, cafeteria, doctor’s office); need to just learn how to chill and handle things like a normal person
