My hoodie is from Southern Illinois University, so it says “Salukis” on the front, which is a little joke that no one gets. (There are no teams I know of whose mascot is the Australian Cattle Dog.)

On the other hand, if some Antipodean university is “The Blue Heelers”, I want to know so I can purchase a proper dog-related hoodie. 6 years ago

The hoodie is a practical garment, perfect for mild spring and fall days. I love my hoodies. (By the way, that’s my beautiful, Expedit bookshelf, in the background of this photo.) 6 years ago

The trouble is, in the U.K., hoodies have recently been the subject of much criticism: some shoplifters have used the hood to conceal their identities from CCTV cameras in shopping centres. The hoodie has become a trademark of “chavs”. A baseball cap is sometimes also worn underneath the hood. Groups of hoodie-clad youths who loiter in public places are sometimes known as “hood rats” or just “hoodies” in England. 6 years ago
