    I love CarMax - I am so happy that I feel guilty -  — 4 months ago

    Worth doing!

I am just as shallow as the people I secretly criticize when I’m in one of my judgemental moods hehe….. I say this because I just bought a new (used) car and I am ECSTATIC!!!! This is the newest car I have ever owned. Well I don’t own it yet I’m making payments but you know what I mean… this is the first car I didn’t buy outright, I am making payments and the interest rate is fairly high: but the payments are affordable and will help to build my lousy credit.

But all that aside… who cares about the financial mumbo jumbo that’s boring… the fun part is …
I’m IN LOVE with this car!!!!(God forgive me)
I almost picked a few different ones but ended up getting this cuz it was so FUN TO DRIVE – it’s A BLAST – didn’t think it would be – it’s a Saturn ION ..hey I’m not a ‘car guy’ last time I had a car that I was stoked about was well – my first car …which was a 1956 Chevy Bel Aire – a car I could even work on, it was HUGE on the inside and one was never cramped working on it; you always had loads of room. I learned alot about cars when I had that car, and working on it was always fun. Now adays cars are just too complex – but anyway… that is the last time I remember being excited about a car – and I don’t know that I’ve EVER been THIS excited… I can NOT WAIT to take this baby for a little spin. I’m going to go out to the Monastery this weekend – PERFECT timing too because it’s my Easter – this is Holy Week for me and they’ll have services all week out at the monastery – I can go out and start talking to them about how I want to be a monk!!! Oh YAY oh YAY oh yay yay yay….

Also proud of myself for making a goal, then making it a priority (so that I can accomplish my other goals) and sticking with it and accomplishing it, all within a matter of a few days. OK admittedly it’s a little easier when it’s a ‘fun’ goal – but still for me this is monumental; the old me would still be complaining about why I can’t do it; why it would never work; I have been big on giving up before I even try lately and considering that I kept trying even after being turned down once might sound like no big deal but I know myself well enough to know that this was a step in the right direction. Just hope I am able to keep up with these payments – screwing these up and my credit will be forever screwed; they’ll reposses the car too; but that’s not going to happen hell if money issues befall me I’ll live in this car before I’ll screw up my credit and let them repossess it.

Well this was a lot of fun, and I’m just as happy as I can be with my purchase if anyone reading this is looking for a car, especially if you are like me and have not the greatest credit or if you’ve been turned down somewhere else – let me recommend CarMax – my car dealer was an awesome girl, super nice, she shared my excitement or at least seemed to which also made it fun. My car is totally covered too, they have a great warranty on their cars. Personally I think CarMax rules OK?

I have the worse credit that ever existed, and after being turned down for a new car sale(the car dealer led me on) I was feeling pretty dejected when I called CarMax. Well I talked to this girl and she took my info; called me back about ten minutes later and told me I’m approved for a used car loan from Wells Fargo and Watchovia both reputable banks and better than what I expected. It’s probably going to be a high interest rate but what the hell at least I can get a car. I might even go down tomorrow if I can swing it – I’m excited and happy that I’ll be able to get a car after all. Yay CarMax! I’m pretty confident that this will be a good deal, I’ve heard good things about CarMax and this one gets good reviews. I’m sure I’ll be posting about it when I finally get it. I’m very relieved.

My boyfriend’s roommate moved to Japan and I bought his 96 Rav4 off of him. It has 150 miles which I know is a big deal but it is a great car for my current needs. I need a vehicle to run up and down 95 at a moments notice to see my family and here is a car that can withstand the drive and terrain (they live in the woods). Mike (the former owner) is the original owner so I knew everything about the car’s history before it went to my mechanic for a buyer’s inspection. This is definitely one case of everything falling into the right place at the right time, and certainly one of the best “I-bought-it-off-a-friend” situations around. Also, since it’s my first car, it is the single greatest feeling being able to go wherever, whenever I need.

Some people name their cars. Mostly I’ve been referring to it as “my baby.” Not Baby, like a name, but just… this thing I will pamper that brings me joy :) ::sheepish::

I think in a lot of ways this car will accomplish a lot of the other more amorphous goals that were implicit in the tags I gave this goal. I have transportation and freedom. Also, a newfound sense of flexibility. Granted, my savings are mostly depleted right now; I don’t think I could really go much of anywhere just yet ;) Except a job…. Well, and also North Chagrin Reservation to walk, whenever I want.

Something like two days after I set the personal challenge on this my mom got admitted to the hospital and now I can use her car anytime I want.

I still think I should get one, though, because once she is able to use the car again, there’s always going to be reasons why I won’t be allowed to use the cars to go car shopping.

Which car has the greatest gas mileage and goes the farthest distance of them all?

It’s on now. I’m going to move to Texas and need a car before then in order to get around. I’ll probably end up driving out there in it. Regardless, before I leave I need a car that’s great on gas mileage and can be put through excessive traveling because I’ll need it to go and forth between here and NOVA. So much for an old Volvo. Also I need it before I graduate because the last thing I want is to be getting a car from my folks. Financially independent to a ‘T’ thank you.

Since my roommate got a used car, and has since already spent more than half of what she paid for it on repairs, I’m ready to put the Volvo on a back burner. It’s not that all Volvo’s are bad nor used cars it’s just I’ve seen what she put the car through (similar to what I’d need to) and what happens to cars that old (mind you I’m talking about my ideal Volvo 240). I think it’s going to be worth it only if I save up and get a newer used car for more. Looks like I’ll be waiting a little longer.

Well, the car itself was given to me  — 1 year ago

it was a total loss and the guys at work fixed it up for me, but I do have to pay for the parts and labor so that’s just like buying it. It’s so nice to drive something again that has some oomph to it, and the gas mileage is so much better to my wallet (and the emissions to the environment!) than it was on my Explorer.

She drives like a stick and sounds like a roadster. That last part doesn’t thrill me, but you take the bad with the good, right?
