hundredwaterswell............

due to not paying rent anymore, I sometimes find that a reason to justify spending…..... my main areas of spending are food, wine, travel, and the occasional clothing item. I’ve been super skimping on clothes for years now, having a wardrobe of goodwill stuff and clearance items. Now, as an adult woman…I”m finding it quite gratifying to have a nice piece here and there, and also finding the joy of sample sales, where I get designer stuff at a 50-80% discount. This weekend I got heels normally $255 for $70.
I don’t know anymore where to draw the line. I do find depression drives me to spend. It’s true, if I’m happy, I don’t spend as much…......
Well, for now I’m still living beneath my means….... Good to keep tabs though and make sure I don’t get out of line. 4 years ago

Things I’ve been lusting after this month but restrained myself from buying:

Books- £17.50 (Went to the library instead, and found some info on the WWW as well.)
Pair of boots- £32.99 (I do need some boots but looking for something cheaper.)
Necklace- £1.00 (Have plenty already.)
Yarn- £9.00 (Finishing WIPs instead.)
Another pet bunny- £25.00 (I cannot stop myself from ‘window shopping’ every time I’m in the pet store I want to take them all home!)

Total = £85.49 4 years ago

I was planning on buying the House DVDs but hadn’t got around to it yet. My dad’s bought them now so I’ve saved a total of £55.96 and I get to go and watch the show with my family – win! 4 years ago

hundredwatersgoodwill and thrift shops

granted, I don’t do this all of the time, but I find a bit of satisfaction in the fact that most of my work clothes are purchased from goodwill. I have had great luck this past year in keeping in a good supply of khaki pants and button down shirts. I even found a velvet t shirt, and a theory sweater and halter top. I have literally saved hundreds of dollars by not paying full price for my work attire. I also have a friend whom I swap stuff with. We each save up stuff we are going to give away to thrift, and then before we get rid of it, we each take a peek at the others stuff and take what we like. Lucky for me she is an attorney and usually buys very nice stuff. Unfortunately, she is much taller than me, but I still have lucked out with some fun work out clothes from her. Savings again! And, while I’m racking up enjoyment here, I used a buy one get one free coupon for my favourite frozen yogurt this week. So, money saved. As far as not buying things I desire…... well, mainly I’m still trying not to eat out more than once a week during my work week, and no lattes or coffess from starbucks during the week, only on weekends, and this weekend no lattes splurges, so savings! 4 years ago

hundredwatersI have curbed my starbucks habit

last year, I was getting a latte or ice coffee almost daily. Now, I can say, I haven’t purchased a latte in three weeks. I make my own coffee at home, that tastes even better than starbucks. I still love Peet’s, but thankfully there is no Peet’s near where I work. Compared to this time last year, I would say, I’m saving at least $75-100 month by making my own coffee at home. I congratulate myself on this, and am failing to mention another splurge that has replaced this one…......... ridge wine. 4 years ago

azrulazmieAnother book

I was targetting to buy one book by Chuck Palahniuk but decided to keep that on hold until I am half way through the book I currently read.

Why would keeping things on hold can actually save money?

Because buying book for me is hormonal, the urge will come back and the sooner I buy the book I desire the sooner will be next urge come 5 years ago

hundredwatersI was just thinking about this today

my main area is food. I think I need to eat more cereal for dinner and also, try to take my own lunch to work.
I am also going to by my next clothes from the thrift shop, that is the plan. 5 years ago

azrulazmieSave 50 ++ for cancelling my plan to hardcover-bind my Reader's Digest collection

They are nice as they are, they are readable. May be a nice strong stapler to secure the binding? 5 years ago

azrulazmieSave 100 ++ for not buying a new smaller Deuter backpack

I have one huge 50 liters backpack and think smaller one will be appropriate for one day visit. But of course everything is very useful when you don’t have them. True to what Tyler Durden said, we are all consumers!! 5 years ago

azrulazmieSave more than RM1000 for not buying the dSLR Fujifilm now

Of course dSLR is cooler than compact point and shoot but I don’t have enough buying power to own this and other peripherals. But I promise myself to buy this when my saving reaches 30k (which will not happen in the near future) 5 years ago

azrulazmieSave +/- RM200 for not buying the lomo camera

I have this burning desire to own a lomo camera which after a while would probably be like other things I bought (i.e Palm Zire, printers) which were left ‘somewhere’ collecting dust. I’d save the money for some realistically useful and long lasting things. i.e dSLR camera 5 years ago
