i cut back that wedding viel, chopped the hell out of it util it had a buzz cut. it is now back full force with “long hair” and thriving! i did finally throw the bay tree out a while back, it was a sad day for me and hubby, but then i bought another small cheap bush one. it came, i think, with bugs on it. i just dont feel like dealing with that and am currently looking at its dead sorry self and will put it out with trash today. no sadness with this one, and not beating myself up anymore: i think i learned this is an extremely difficult plant to care for. my other guys are doing swell: my secret is to rotate “shower duty”, where i take them all about once a week, grab two and stick them in the shower. this cleans their leaves and waters them, so lowers risk of bugs they love to be clean! i usually let them dry off for a day in the shower, which is like a little nap/break from the sun and sure perks up the windowless bathroom to have plants hanging overhead as you shower!!

ooh nice. i have a new house with a porch! i have peppers too—one big one and a bunch of littel hotties. the bay tree is loving our new not so hot house, and it has its own little window and two new shoots. I’ve got a big famliy o plants now, and only one died but i shouldn’t have bought it b/c it said “very thirsty” which means you need to water it at least 2 times a day apparently.
I helped to pollenate my pepper plants. Jiggled my pinky in one flower, then jiggled it in the next, etc. Felt a little dirty…

so the tree is coming back. still kicking.
i went to my favorite greenhouse and found some lovely hanging plants—2 for 1! i got a spider, wandering jew, philodendrin and bridal viel. supposidely these will all do well in my super dry apartment. we’ll see. so far they r looking great!
anyone starting a garden for the summer? I think i’m goign to try to do both some porch gardening (veggies etc) and continue to “green” my apartment via a living wall of plants in the windows that need a bit more privacy (i’m also tracking this under apartment improvement goal) wish me luck! i’d love tips if anyone reads this on how to do porch pot gardening!
i just found this balcony gardeningformum, looks helpful:

i love your goal…i share it, but less as a gardener. my plants are all indoors most of the year. Me and my plant daddy just spent about 3 hours wiping bugs off our infested indoor bay tree. it got some kind of mites when we stuck it outside i guess. ugh—gross but wierdly satisfying to kill them by wipping of w/ rubbing alchohol. I cut the tree way back, gave it some seaweed fertilZER, and i’m hoping it’s going to make it.
