Pointless, this is just trying to do something for the sake of it. The point is, I am just better suited to night time at the moment, and there’s no point changing that. Getting out of bed earlier on the other hand might be a goal worth considering…

    Worth doing!

Went to bed at 7pm. Woke up at 11pm. Slept again at 3am. Woke up today at 7am. Does that count? :)

Will do better today or next week.

    A lamp and a $4.95 timer  — 2 years ago

I have gotten a $4.95 timer from the hardware store and plugged in a desk lamp near my bed. It cuts on at 7:00 AM so I am exposed to bright light about 30 minutes before my first alarm goes off (7:30 AM a travel alarm beside my bed). Then the radio cuts on (7:45 in the bathroom). About 15 minutes after that, the obnoxious alarm goes off (8 AM). WHen it goes off, I must get up and go into the bathroom to turn it off.

The lamp seems to be helping me adjust my sleep/wake cycle to be earlier. Every few days I am clicking the timer ahead a few more minutes. My goal is light on at 6AM and up by 7AM.

I am getting sleepy earlier. I am taking a valerian at 10 PM (or close to) and 2 Tylenol. It helps a little bit.

I am drinking water earlier in the day so I don’t have to get up so much during the night.

I am drinking no more than two cups of coffee a day. One most days.

    I am off steriods.

I am taking vitamins early in the morning so the niacin won’t keep me awake.

Now if I can just go to bed at 11 PM instead of just thinking about it. I am getting to bed by midnight most nights. Some nights it is closer to 1AM.

Previously it was 2-3 AM most nights and then I was still awake for a while after I went to bed. I am pretty much going to sleep within 10 minutes of going to bed.

    The lamp is helping.

Failing, failing  — 2 years ago

I am useless at this, even on nights when I have to get up for work the next day. It’s midnight as I type this. I’m so tired and yet I sit at the laptop for hour after hour. Why is it so hard to just go to bed at a decent time?

First night trying this last night, instead of going to bed at 1am. Set my alarm for 8:30am as well. Didn’t sleep to about 1am, and felt pretty tired this morning – but I guess thats all in change.

doing this  — 2 years ago

i’ve been regularly getting to bed around 10:30 or so. i’ll keep this goal up for another couple of weeks and if i continue goig to bed before 11:00 during those weeks i’ll consider this one accomlished and a part of my regular lifestyle.

Eh. Never mind.  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

I couldn’t do this reliably, and when I did, I’d often wake up at 3am stressing about work stuff or other things left undone. I’m hoping that ditching coffee will help even things out a bit, but I’ve really never had ‘normal’ sleep patterns, so why start thinking I will now?
