Public Warning- Lady Sovereign 3 years ago

finally!
a rap album that doesn’t inspire me to shove sharp, pointy objects into my ear canals!!
it probably helps that Lady Sovereign can actually speak English. sure she uses a little slang and has a cockney accent but-as she herself points out-at least she knows that she’s right there, not “thur” or over here, not “hur”
the rise of ebonics in pop culture is just promoting ignorance, making it cool to not know how to put words together and reinforcing negative stereotypes. if you want to stay down, keep on!

this album is fantastic.
and though this tiny Lady does not appreciate being compared to Eminem…..
well she’s like a british Femme-inem.
crass and not caring
making rap funny, not all about ass, drugs, guns and rims
for those craving that rap beat, but disinterested in getting retarded listening to that “thug” shit, check out this album.

St. Elsewhere - Gnarls Barkley 3 years ago

a great album created by some odd guys.
my favorite part about Gnarls Barkley used to be their music.
i still loOove that!!
but now i’m really digging their gimic.
they do not appear in public w/out being in themed costumes.
whether they are Star Wars characters, superheros, 50’s greasers
these boys love dress-up
and i love their creativity, imagination, and enjoyment of finding humor in both self and the everyday.
“monster in my closet” is my favorite track on their album.
for sure.

Madonna-Confessions on a Dance Floor 4 years ago

you really can’t go wrong with Madonna; duh.
but this album just further reinforces that law of auditory aesthetics.

Great club/dance songs, but at the same time she incorporates spiritual and slightly philosophical lyrics and tell a few good tales. all with excellent beats. and-God!-my mom hates how the album sounds w/ or w/out subwoofer. woohoo! new form of torture!

loVelOveLove Madonna.

Monkey Business (the Black Eyed Peas) 4 years ago

Definitely an excellent album.

Originally, i got their first album (Elephunk) for two reasons: 1. i liked their singles i had heard so far and 2. Elephants are one of my 2 favorite animals ever (and i collect them). Anyway, that first album was the shit and when i heard the BEP were coming out with another album, i got excited. When i saw the title-to-be was Monkey Business (monkeys being my other favorite animal) i knew i would buy it even though i’d not heard a track on the album.

Now that i’ve listened to it over and over…you can definitely hear their sound of origin; authentic hip-hop. There is a strong touch of both rap and pop. It meshes well. Track 10 is my favorite. Very funky! But what do you expect with a James Brown compilation?

A good album but they seem to be disappearing into the pop scene. We may slowly be loosing a good hip-hop group. Ah, well. I’m enjoying the evolution of the Black Eyed Peas.

Love Angel Music Baby 4 years ago

I’ve never purchased a Gwen Stefani album prior to this one. Yes, i know this is her first solo album, i was also including any No Doubt albums.

I totally dug it. You can sense her inspiration from her recent trips to Japan. It also has an old-school Madonna sound (there are tracks that I swear sounded like the cone bra wearing queen of pop herself, back in the 80’s). Her expopsure to the Urban/Hip-hop scene is evident on this album as well. It all combines to create a really cool and difficult to emmulate pop disc.

Korn Greatest Hits Vol 1. 4 years ago

The essential Korn album (i’m a sucker for greatest hits). All those songs you rocked out to in your youth. It would’ve been more perfect had that DVD they included had all the music videos instead of just a live performance. Good for those moments when you need to rage. Adequately expresses angst, but nothing deeper.
