There’s a competition run by the Botanic Gardens coming up soon. I’ve been procrastinating about entering, because I find it hard to choose my favourite photos and I never think they’re as good as other people seem to think they are. But I’ve got 2 weeks to select, print and enter 5 photos taken around the Gardens, then they’ll be on display for public judging for a few weeks until the winner is announced. It’s not quite the same as a gallery show, but I hope this first step will increase my confidence.
Time to take the leap of faith …

A month or so ago I was asked if I’d be interested in showing some of my photos at an Earth Day art show. I said yes – excited, inspired, and fully intent on buckling down and getting a handful of things nicely matted and framed (and then finishing a cute little photo-book I could bring with me as well). Unfortunately this didn’t happen, and I’m genuinely pissed off at myself for not getting it together.
I’ve been beating myself up about it, then today I happened to run into a shockingly good deal on those 8.5 X 11 glass clip frames. Plain, yes, but I could still print up a handful of pictures and have something showable—they don’t need to be fancy, and it might be a good place to start. It would certainly be less personally discouraging than bailing.
I got a stack of them, so we’ll see, we’ll see. I was also thinking it would be easy to set up a laptop and photo-stocked flash drive for digital display.

I want to do this because I want to be a photographer and if I want to make it to the top…you got to start at the bottom.

TiaSerre is using her time constructively.
I have a 2nd photo now hung in the Spa I get massages from. Now I’d like to find a place that has more traffic.

I love doing photography. I love art in general, and enjoy creating art photography for myself. I truly do get tickled when someone enjoys my photos!

I had an image in a show at the museum and received a lot of great comments. It was a lot of fun to sit back and listen as people discussed my work without know I was there.

After sharing some of my photos that I matted & framed (following my class) I’ve been asked to bring 5-10 to a Christmas art show / sale. The only problem is it’s in less than a month and I don’t think I have the time.
First of all, I think I’d have a terrible time choosing things I think are really good. I need to have a serious talk with my internal editor and tell her to stop being such a bitch. It isn’t all garbage.
I don’t know if I can do that and wrangle all the equipment required and pull it off on top of everything else.
It was SO nice getting the positive feedback & request though.

OK, f**k walgreens, they printed my (square) photo and cropped it into a rectangle. Helllllooooo?
? And did the woman behind the counter offer to do it again the way I wanted? No, she just offered a long explanation of how everything is totally automated and it wasn’t her fault.
So I uploaded some of my digital pics to the nice, non-chain photo printing place where an actual human being looks at your photos before printing them. This makes me feel like a serious photographer, even if I’m not one :-) Granted, my prints will be ready in two days instead of an hour, and it costs a little more, but I think it’s worth it.
