It’s exciting to read the posts in this thread: I’ve been living barefoot for the past eight years (24/7/365) and am enjoying it a lot! It simply feels SO good, right? And our feet don’t need much time to adjust, even to hot tarmac, gravel, snow… It’s amazing! Roaming around on bare soles really makes a difference – feeling the ground, different surfaces… If you like, you can mail me to talk about our experiences: barefoot_jens@yahoo.com

More "How I Did It" stories
How I did it: I did it at first by accident, I intended to walk the dog just outside the house on a cold winter day when I was barefoot. The dog had other ideas, and dragged me for about a one-half mile walk. I then began longer walks, even in shallow snow. After a while, I realized that the only times walking barefoot was uncomfortable was when the outside temperatures went below about 25 degrees or above 90 degrees F. Read how I did it…

i played soccer at the basketball court today and i totally burnt the soles of my feet.
magic :D
I have started to go shoeless in public places. I was forced to confiscate my shoes most of the time. It is fun so far. I would love to do this for the year of 2008. Before I go to work, I walk shoeless. After I get off from work, I go shoeless. I also go to church shoeless. I only put my running shoes on when I go running. After my workout, I take my shoes off.
well, at our school. we must go barefoot. we are having this pipeline fixed, so everymorning, when we go to school, the confiscate our shoes and socks and we have to wade. its cold, but king of fun. since this is going on for another few months, none of us wear shoes anymore. there was frost this morning and i walked right through it. If you go to one of our malls, you will see that all the kids that go to our school are barefoot.
going barfoot is wonderful. At our school, we all go barefoot all year and its great. at first we wore shoes, but when the school got funds to have carpets placed, students started going to school barefoot! i thought it was weird, until I tried it. Then we signed a petition stating to have all students go barefoot. more than half of the student body signed! Now we are only allowed shoes in the winter, but we decide to go barefoot anyways. walking in the snow is fun! =) It might hurt at first, my toes went numb in the winter and i stepped on glass, but trust me, its worth it. plus you can stop worrying about shoe fashions. people are actually saving hundreds of dollars because of this. i think all schools should do this.

I grew up in a world where children went barefoot. In primary school shoes were optional. It’s not that we were poor, I did have shoes for school, we just did not wear them, or at least not in summer. I’m glad to see that this still happens in my home town.
It’s a pity I have to wear shoes to work for fashion & safety, because it makes my feet go soft and makes it a bit painful to walk on pebbles and rough grass.
(Oh, and I always giggle on the inside when I see nudists wearing shoes.)
It’s funny how such a small thing like this causes me to be more relaxed.
Like this morning, I walked barefoot to my neighbor’s to water their plants. And yesterday, I walked barefoot through the grass. It’s so natural. I love the feel of earth against my feet. I go barefoot as much as possible. If I can go one week without shoes, I’d be so happy! But in some places, it’s not appropriate. Like in restaurants, and at school. But right now, I think I’m doing fairly good on this goal. I completely forget when I adopted it, but it doesn’t matter. just as long as my feet are feelin good. :)
i have always had problems grounding during meditation. after learning to walk barefoot, i feel so much more connected with the earth. it makes me feel incredibly grounded.
I’m now more comfortable without shoes than with. I’m okay walking on rough asphalt and fine gravel, and often leave the house without even thinking about shoes. I’d say I’m a bonafide barefooter.
