    Blow dries 12 months ago

Well I’ve developed the knack for cutting, colour and highlights but its taken me a loooong time to perfect my blow drying and I’m still getting there but I mastered the art of a long-hair curly blow dry this week and the whole salon congratulated me lol!

    Haristylist 16 months ago

I want to become a professional haristylist. I am 37 years old this was always my dream when attended high school. I went to a vocational school and took up Dress Making. After I finished shool I lost intrest in that trade.

I already have plans on how I want to remodel my basement so that I can be self employed, until I can purchase or rent a salon.

I will be starting hair school this September. I hope when I complete my classes in June that I am still interested in doing hair.

    STRESS!!!! 23 months ago

I started my apprenticeship last monday and it was fab until day 5 when some clients got crazy angry with me and then the next day it was also pretty bad. I’ve learnt a heck of a lot through that experience and I REALLY hope it gets better this next week and in the future!
    Angry clients = scary!!!

I had to cut my hair even shorter because its got so damaged and porous from colouring. I’m gonna try not colouring it for about two months and see if I can do it. Basically I’ll try leave it until next year when I start at FairLady.. but we’ll see.. can I do it?

I cut Cheryl’s hair for the first time last week and I cut Anthony’s hair for the first time this week. Those two both show how people’s trust has developed in me and I’m very happy with the results – so are they! I think I’m really building a loyal clientele =) which is great.

Su keeps wanting me to do her colour and blow dry, which always makes me happy =)

Funny enough, I was wanting to get a flat iron on saturday and then on monday morning one of the girls in my class gave me one.. the exact one I’d been checking out. It’s been pretty cool to be able to straighten my hair so easily now and its going to be very useful for styling and upstyles.

Speaking of which, I’m stoked about doing my first wedding in January.. and I’m also doing my first competition on 19 Nov… =)

developing a reputation (lol) 2 years ago

well i’ve certainly been developing my reputation. It’s good so far. I’ve been getting lots of compliments on my work:
-some of the pickiest people appreciate that I am a “perfectionist” and like to do my best
-ladies are preferring my work and wanting to come back to me:) ...maybe also coz they get it for free.. but even those who pay come back for more :)
-my mom and some of my other critics have come out of the woodwork to get their hair done
-and I’ve also got a reputation for changing my hair every week.. if not everyday!! lol

I’ve finished my cutting exams (5hours long) and I passed first time.. I was one of the few in the class who did.
I’ve also done my colour exams. I only passed my highlights, the others I have to do again bcoz I took too long. It didn’t help that I was sick at the time as well though, but it doesn’t matter. I would rather I learn as much as I can about colour now at college because I find it quite challenging to predict how things will turn out. Its a complete mixture of science and art and I love it (it still rather scary at the moment tho)

oh my sac! 2 years ago

I can’t believe how these difficult middle aged women can demand so much of me as a learner…
    “quick quick”
    “for my son’s wedding”
“just a little bit here.. and there .. and there”
“my sister/cousin/daughter would also like to come.. can you fit her in tomorrow?”
“and I also want [ANOTHER] cut?”
“don’t worry we can do it next week… next time”
WHAT THE HELL? do u think there is going to be a next time?
They’re getting this for free and then they want to suck me dry! I have other friends I want to do. I have other appointments! There is no such thing as quick quick!! I’m a frikkin LEARNER!
    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    LOVE 2 years ago

Yesterday we cut a basic short cut (on the doll) below the occipital and left the top half with short square layers. It was such a nice cut for a guy.
Today we cut a fauxhawk and I directed it more to the front to give it a fringe and make it more feminine. I really didn’t want to cut that though, coz I’ve cut that already on my brother and a friend and I reeally wanted to keep yesterdays cut on my doll! :(

i’m looking forward to cutting crazy dave’s hair into an emo fashion cut. Just waiting for his hair to grow a bit longer…
I LOVE doing guy’s hair. It’s like sculpture. Real artwork:)

"not yet competent" 2 years ago

In our final Cluster 2 exams I passed my upstyle but not my set and blowdry so I’m going to have to do that again.

We’ve started Cluster 3 cutting and we’ve been doing it for about 3 weeks now. Outside of class I’ve cut Rob’s hair, Neville’s Hair, Louise’s hair and mom’s hair. Two mohawks, square layers and a one-length (that I still need to clean up cause I didn’t do what she wanted! I “personalised” the cut too much!)

Triangular graduation is really hardcore. My fingers were cramping today when I did that cut. I also did square graduation today and that was really nice.

Cluster 2 Exams so far 2 years ago

last week cornrows, braiding, airwaves and tonging went great..
but today the pincurls, fingerwaves and finger dry weren’t so great. I was so extremely stressed!

not so great 2 years ago

oh dear.. I’m so stressed.. I wish I didn’t have so many things to do. I feel a bit crazy.
Tomorrow I have an exam and I’m sure it will go fine but it’s all the preparation and the things I have to make sure that I don’t forget to do… aaaaah….
    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ :)
