learn fluent spanish

beautiful language but i can’t seem to stick at it for more than a few days at a time! maybe its time to pack up my things and move to madrid!

...is now in my possession. I just have to find time to learn!

I went to Cuba a couple of months ago and I fell in love with the culture! I would love to go back many more times. I would love to live there for as long as the country would allow. And bringing myself back with a lot of spanish would help a lot.

I have always wanted to communicate in another language. I love to hear people speaking different languages. It’s so fascinating. I would love to make friends with different cultures of people. I choose Spanish because I have met so many Latin Americans,that I have become close friends with and felt a little jealous that I couldn’t talk with them in their language.

Spanish 001 almost completed! Next step: Spanish 002 and after that, 6 months in South America. Nooo problem. :)

Okay, I’m going to start posting three new words from each chunk of reading I do. I’m reading a short story by Juan Rulfo – painfully but steadily.

From yesterday:

huizaches – [desert] shrubs of the acacia species
carabina – rifle
cerros – hills

Today I brought a Neruda book, a dictionary, and a little Spanish Lit. packet into my temp job. I’m going to read a bunch, write down the vocabulary I don’t know, then turn the vocabulary into pictorial flash cards later on. It’s a start!

I can decipher writing pretty well with a dictionary, I can get the gist of what folks around me are saying, my accent’s decent, I can explain myself, and I’ve even had dreams in Spanish. But I want to be comfortable. I want to be able to read most things without a dictionary, understand almost exactly what folks around me are saying, and explain myself clearly and easily.

I can speak some, but I need to know more. I spent 8 weeks in Venezuela and 2 in Cuba (very tough Spanish), and it was a whole new world.
