A little failure 8 months ago

I accidentally got m&ms instead of poptarts from the vending machine today. I gave the m&ms away and returned to get poptarts. Though poptarts probably have about the same amount of sugar as the m&ms, in my mind (perhaps this is the problem) it’s totally okay because it’s a breakfast food, therefore I’m making this a compromise and calling it a little failure. From here I’ll try to be better…or when work isn’t as crazy, and I’ll try for little successes.

    More healthy 11 months ago

By all accounts and research, consuming less sugar is healthy. Diabetes (type 2) seems to be popular in my family, so controlling my sweet tooth can only be good. Not sure how to go about this. I can go for large periods of time without eating sugar or carbs, and with no cravings, but every now and then I will pig out. So for now I’m going to keep track of every time I consume carb in the form of sugar/sweet stuff (luckily, I’m naturally not fond of bread/pasta/rice), to get an idea of how much carbs/sugar I’m consuming, and that may motivate me to cut down.

    too much! 13 months ago

Does it make any sense that after I add this goal to my list I eat donuts and drink more than a normal amount of soda for me in one day?

I’m not overweight, so I’m not doing this to try and lose weight, but diabetes runs in my family, and that does scare me. I want to eat better for myself so that I don’t end up relying heavily on medication when I’m older.

I think I’m doing pretty well with this goal. I’ve been eating much healthier, and therefore consuming less sugar even just in foods. Processed foods are full of sugar, and I’ve almost entirely eradicated them from my new lifestyle.

I’m eating a lot less chocolate too, which of course means a lot less sugar.

Really, I only have sugar regularely in my tea!

I think this is getting a little easier. Today I haven’t craved sugar at all, and I don’t think I did yesterday either. I’ve been eating healthily for almost two weeks now, so maybe my blood sugar levels (and therefore my cravings) have levelled off.

...two days ago. Cutting out sweets is an obvious (though not easy) thing to do, but the hardest turns out to be taking less sugar in my tea. I already used about half of what I used to, but it’s still more than I probably should. It took some getting used to the flavour to reach where I am now, so maybe once I’ve done it for a while it’ll get easier. Apparenlty eating less sugar makes you more sensitive to the sweetness of other things, so it should be easeir eventually!

This sounds like such a good goal, but I really love my chocolate, and I don’t think I can (or want to) give it up!!
