	How to organize my yarn by LookingAhead It took me 4 days It made me "Cathartic, and helped me get rid of some of the stress of knowing my cat could get into the yarn, eat some, and injure himself." How I did it: I bought some large, 3-drawer Sterilite bins. Then I just started going through my yarns and classifiying them into A (take with me if the house catches on fire), B (reliable workhorses), C (weird, funky, might want to get rid of). Then I concentrated on putting A and B into the bins, but haven't done anthing with C yet. However, 85% of my yarn is now organized. Lessons & tips: Just get started. It will all work itself out. We went with the Exepedit shelving system, and things are much happier.I mean, there's still yarn everywhere, but I feel more in charge of it. More importantly, my yarn inspires me. Yarn organization 17 months ago

Ikea to the rescue! We’ve got the shelves, they’re all set up, now to get all of the yarn into it (like with like) before the shelf gets taken over with things that are not yarn. Like cats. And books.

The goal is to have my yarn organized as if it were my own yarn shop. I want to walk into the room, over to the shelf, and be inspired by my yarn the way that I was when I first got it.

I got the 4×4 Expedit (the 5×5 wouldn’t fit in the car) and yes, I will fill it.

change everything is getting her shizz together

summer is not the time for yarn 18 months ago

not for me, anyway. It’s all contained in one container, but come fall when I get real about what project I want for the winter, I’m going to try to give some away or use some up so it will fit in the container with the cover on. But what’s the use of organizing something when I’m not sure what purpose it’s going to serve in the near future? I want to wait until I know what projects I want to work on before I work on culling through it.

With the help of Ravelry, I’ve got my hooks, needles and yarn inventoried to the best of my ability (aka based on how many skeins still have their wrappers on!). It is so helpful to be able to compare a possible project with the types of yarn I have (especially their weights). Ya hoo! Here’s to busting through that stash!
