I want to work at Gamestop 2 weeks ago

I want to work at GameStop because I simply love video games and I like talking to other gamers. Plus, I really need to do something in my life.

It's a very laid back job... 16 months ago

Really, if you’re not into games there’s absolutely NO reason to work there. You only get paid minimum wage or a little bit above it. You get discounts but nothing special. You can check out games for a few days. And there’s absolutely NOTHING to do when you work there if it’s slow.

It’s a very easy job. You alphabetize games, you check out customers. And if you know a LOT about video games and you need a part-time job you should definitely consider becoming a Game Advisor.
I, however, don’t really like this job all that much. I mean, I like the people I work with and the customers aren’t too bad. But I have a hard time keeping game release dates in my head and I don’t have any of the new systems out like the PS3, the 360, or the wii. So I really don’t know all that much about the newest systems which is NOT good. Customers and managers expect you to know all there is to know about games. I personally don’t care to learn all about game systems I don’t have and can’t afford. :P I know a lot about older systems that I own but that’s not good enough hahaha :D

One of the worst things is at smaller stores (like mine) it can be VERY hard to get hours. I work about 5-10 hours a week MAXIMUM. It really sucks because I’d like to work more often. It’s hard to get good at something when you’re there once a week. So I have to practically re-learn everytime I go in. Very frustrating.

But if you’re young say 14-15 (or 16, 17 depends on state) years old and looking for a first job and LOVE video games, this is definitely a great job for you.

This is only worth doing if you love the people there, have a high tolerance for idiots, and aren’t too concerned about making money. Barely minimum wage isn’t enough incentive for dealing with some of these people.
I, however, have been working here for 1/5 of my life, and I love it because I know it so well.

it was my first job. 3 years ago

amusing while it lasted. the pay wasn’t anything great but i think a lot of people were just there for the employee discount/check outs. fun.
