I saw Christo during “the gates”. . .he was driving through central park and stuck his head out of the car.

I had thought they were already gone when I happened to be in NYC for a conference but I went to Central Park and they hadn’t yet been taken down in the section I was in. That was a nice surprise.
Is my new blue. Since visiting Central Park last weekend, I’ve found myself drawn towards everything orange. I did find myself wishing the fabric had been slightly more transparent for “additive” layers of orange. Loved how the wind played with the fabric…
My wife and I live in Philly and we actually went to NYC last Wednesday to see “Gates” and do some other things. Gates is a wonderful phenom—got more people walking & talking in Central Park on a gray weekday than usual, that’s for sure. It’s really a “forest and trees” thing: see the pattern of gates, not the individual gate. Like Christo, himself, said, “One gate—not art. Twenty-three gates—not are. Twenty-three miles of gates—ART!” Hope you can get to see it.
Pretty cool… and actually, we almost did see christo in the park, being followed by a mob of media guys. Well worth it, and too bad I don’t live in NYC
The Gates Project for Central Park, is being installed, to run Feb 12 until the 27th. see:
