My mom gave me a book today! She said she was going to give it to me later as a family holiday gift, but she babysat Gabriel for us the other day and saw the pole, and knew she just couldn’t wait.
The book is “The S Factor: Strip Workouts for Every Woman,” by Sheila Kelley.
The first 165 pages I’ve skimmed, as it’s just stripping dance, but 166-210 is pole dancing. She even recommends some music!
In the intro to pole dancing, she writes “I love my pole. If it were up to me, every woman in America would have one. Nothing gives you a sense of power or freedom like pole work. You feel like you’re a sexual goddess, a kid, and a superhero all at once.”
Further on in her intro, she says “On it (the pole), you will come as close to flying as humanly possible.”
I’m not sure I agree with that statement, as I have had the exhilaration of riding an ex-racer Thoroughbred at a flat gallop… but I’d be thrilled if I am proven wrong!
The book looks fun already (a section on how to choose your stripper name! LOL!), and I’m sure it will be a great help. There is a move called the Firefly I particularly can hardly wait to try.
I’m not as sore today, either. I think pole dancing is a lot like archery muscles – you gain them fast!
A few tips that come to mind already are
BARE SKIN! One place suggested to wear yoga pants and shoes to start. What the? If anything, wear shorts and socks, but certainly not pants, and I would go barefoot.
Bare hands! I’ve stopped wearing my wedding band for now. Every time I am in the room, I’ll swing around on it, so remembering to take it off each time will be a nuisance.
