my friends and I went to this bowling alley/bar/restaurant last night and they had a karaoke contest.
So I got dared to sing a song and I did!
Not only did I sing my first song (Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Deep Blue Something), but I sang another one, It’s My Life by Bon Jovi.
I didn’t really do too bad…

Not worth it. If you don’t want to, then don’t. You know you, and you know your embarrassment level. I’m outgoing and can speak in front of whoever, but this was excruciating and it was a duet!

...but I sang Alanis Morrisette “Hands Clean” and was told that I did pretty good!
Oh, and I also butchered a Bob Marley song with a friend. I stood up there giggling like an idiot with my hand in front of my mouth, not singing. I told the karaoke guy, “Any Bob song EXCEPT Buffalo Soldier,” and I guess he just heard “Buffalo Soldier”. Ugh.

Putting this to the side for now. I only sing in front of my kids… or extremely drunk people that I know well. :-)

jaklumen is feeling a little better but misses the sunshine
I used to do this quite a bit, just to show a person didn’t have to be liquored up, and could sing well. I would try to challenge myself by picking a variety of songs.
But let me assure you, dear reader, you don’t HAVE to sing well! Karaoke is not really about show-stopping performances. I found if a person can motivate and involve the crowd, and generally express a hearty “I’m having a great time, have a great time with me, too!” well, that’s all you really need.

Well, it wasn’t exactly karaoke, but I sang “The Worst Pies in London” and “Wait” (both from Sweeney Todd) with an accompaniment CD for my family. Works for me.
