I already know: Assembler, Pascal, Delphi, C, C++, Progress, Informix 4GL, Basic, Java

But whereever i go (as a java developer) i meet Host programmers at the age of 50.. Since i am only 34 i still have about 16 years to go….

My company is going to train me in mainframe technologies, including COBOL, for use on IBM big iron. Kind of funny for a guy who has lived for fewer years than most COBOL programmers have been in the industry!

I used to document COBOL programs. If you know what you’re looking at, COBOL is dead easy. There’s a lot of preset up stuff in terms of formatting, etc. for the language, but aside from that, it’s a workable language, and can be easy to learn and read.

My husband, formerly a Fortran programmer, hates COBOL with a passion. It seems to be a language that people either really like, or don’t.
