Today felt 100% like summer and has left the wool sweater I’m knitting pushed back even further in my closet (and in my mind I guess). Its a dark red Manos de Uruguay piece and I’ve done all but one remaining sleeve and have hit such a wall I’m not sure I’ll finish it for another year. It seems silly to not be able to finish the final sleeve but somehow this is the hardest part! It’s so boring! 4 years ago

So my nephew finally got his sweater, but it didn’t fit :( Even though I calculated his size by the time he got it, it seems I still knitted a size too small. That’s what happens when you take a whole 10 months to knit a sweater!! Kids grow!! LOL
Oh well, they can always keep it for the next one ;)
So now I owe a new sweater for my nephew. But I’ll start later; now I’m working on one for my dog :o) 4 years ago

...but for now, I’m checking the “I’ve done this” button. I’m going on to knit a sweater for my doggie, but that’s in another “thing” to do :o) 4 years ago

I finally got the buttons and sewed them. I packed the sweater, the hat, and a card, and mailed it!!
I hope my nephew will enjoy it at least for what’s left of winter and his growing spur permits :o) 4 years ago

I finally finished knitting my nephew’s sweater —with hat and all—, but I’ve been looking all over for 3 buttons, and I can’t find any. I will have to make a special trip to JoAnne’s 15 miles away :P
Winter will be over in 10 days, and my brother tells me that my nephew is now wearing 18-months’ clothes… so maybe he’ll wear the sweater two times :S
Well, they can always save it for the next one ;) 4 years ago

I have finished the sleeves and am sewing it together. I have another class on Tuesday (next week) to learn how to do the trim, collar, and button holes on the trim. Then I’ll be able to finally send it to my little second cousin:) 4 years ago

Well, I finally finished doing all the knitting (after one year), so I just need to sew it all together. Must be done by the end of this week! 4 years ago

I just got back from my 3rd class. I have a back and half of the front done. Then I’ll start working on the sleeves. My goal is to finish all that by next weekend. In my last class, I’ll be able to stitch it all together and add the trim and buttons. THEN I’ll BE DONE!!!:) and I’ll be able to send it off to my cousin Erin for her baby Annie Laurie. 5 years ago

My Husband got me knitting classes at the yarn store right down the street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still haven’t finished the baby sweater, but I think I need to actually learn how to read a pattern, b/c that sweater simply will not fit any baby comfortably:) Oh well. But I have knitting classes!!!:) 5 years ago

I’m discouraged. I’m almost done with the baby sweater (-1 sleeve). I guess I’m just frustrated b/c I don’t know how to read patterns and am afraid to make any more. I don’t want to screw anything up by spending a lot of time on a project that turns out with a too short sleeve and a crappy lope-sided reindeer on the front. Alright, the reindeer thing probably won’t just happen “accidently.” Especially if I’m only using one color of yarn, but I’m still worried I’ll end up with something ackward and wasteful. 5 years ago

I’m almost done with the baby sweater. I just need to knit another sleeve and sew it on. I didn’t use a pattern, which was kinda dumb, but then again I don’t have a clue how to read those things. I should learn! My sweater is turning out looking pretty good, but I’m sure it won’t be comfortable to wear, so I may just have a take a picture and remember it for all of the experience that it’s given me. At least I learned a few new things and some things not to do:) WOOT! 5 years ago

HOLY COW!!! I just learned how to purl by accident. I am excited about this stitch. I’m not sure how I didn’t get this for so many years. It’s just one more step torward finishing a sweater. I think I’m going to make a baby sweater for my cousin’s little one:) That way I can get the hang of it before I have to really invest a lot more time (and yarn) into this project.
If you need to learn to purl this is the website I found. It has a really good picture to explain it:

When I was in high school I wanted to finish knitting something so I made a baby sweater. My mom was sooooo scared until I explained that I did it because it was so much smaller and I might actually finish it. I did it was great. My daughter wears it now 6 years ago

Well, a sweater was one of my first knitting projects, and I did it without doing a guage swatch first, so it doesn’t fit me at all, but nevertheless, I look at it, and I say: wow, I knit that, me! I’m so freaking awesome. I totally recommend finishing a sweater, but unless you focus pretty hard, it can be difficult, because smaller projects do seem easier, but only because you get your payoff faster. 6 years ago

I’ve been working on this thing for almost a year. It’s cozy and warm, even if the neckline turned out kind of strange. (The pattern is from the Fall 2004 issue of Knit.1) 6 years ago
