I joined my high school rowing team because my mother encouraged me to. At first I hated it because I wasn’t very good, but once I got the hang of it, I fell in love and now I’m the president of the rowing club at my college.
How to learn to row
How I did it: I joined my school rowing team to lose weight, and picked it all up very quickly. I had one or two private lessons with a club i also joined, but rowing (particularly sculling) just came to me after a few weeks.
Lessons & tips: Join a club, and take part in the "learn to row" program.
And learn how to scull! that way you can always row, and don't need to depend on others.

This summer I am going to be taking rowing lessons so that I can participate in the junior team for Fall and Spring. I hope to join a rowing team when I go to a university, so I am glad that I am starting early :)
IM VERY EXCITED. I have never done any serious sports and I think this will be good for me. Will help me gain social skills, become physically fit, and will give me something to take pride in.
I might get back into it; at the Farmer’s Market this weekend I talked to some people in the club as they are having a free-for-all this next weekend on the reservoir.
I just got a bug in my bonnet about wanting to row and so I found a beginners’ course and did it… much fun! And now I’m joining a team… hurrah.

so i count this goal as completed.
what i want next is to learn to row in skif.
this summer, i hope!
Cassaclyzm enjoying the holidays!
They don’t seem to have a rowing team anymore. And buying a rowing machine looks like it’s going to be way too expensive for my liking.
If I get the opportunity to do this when I’m abroad I’ll certainly jump on it, but I want to focus on more basic goals right now.

I learned to row in college and participated at D1 level. You can learn to destroy your own limits, put team before self and get in kick-ass shape.
rowing is amazing. i’d always been a fairly sporty person and never thought i would ever fall in love with physical activity after trying out all the basketball, lacrosse, soccer – never feel that first adrenaline rush from the first time feeling physical exertion. but rowing was so new to me, i had never experienced something so exciting. you work parts of your body that many other athletes don’t. it’s a true exercise in teamwork, as well, and it just… it feels good.
i might add i’m a sweep rower, so i’m only clutching onto one oar, but it’s for a 30ft wooden boat so i guess it’s a bit different. ;) either way, it’s addictive.
