I can’t wait for this year’s shower! It’s supposed to be a very strong shower this year, and it’s only two days away! I wish the warm weather had stuck around for a few days longer so it wouldn’t be so cold out while watching, but at least the sky will be clear!

I didn’t get to see anything, it was far too cloudy. Mind you, like on grey days when you still know that the sun is shining right behind the clouds, I knew that the meteor shower was taking place… cool!!!

LunaNueva is celebrating her 43rd year of life!
It seems my quota for this year’s showers is two shooting stars per shower! And neither were on a peak night. Not only was it cloudy this morning, but it was raining! That was the last chance to catch a view of this year’s Leonids. Oh, well…
Yet, it was worth with all the anticipation and excitement, like Julie said. And I’m really grateful that I didn’t get bit by a snake on my walks out in the dark of the night —we found a lethal one dead in front of the house the next morning ::gasp::
Most of all, I’m grateful for all fellow 43ers who joined the goal and for their enthusiasm :) Till we join again for the Geminids in December —which appears to be more of a spectacle—, cheers to all!

(not my pic)
When it was a meteor “storm” ... was up at 8200’ and it was S O O O cold. Then I started “dancing” with the stars – I had so much fun watching them streak through the sky. Somewhere we’ve got pictures I took with some meteor trails and even a debris cloud from a bolide, twisting in the mesosphere.

Well, it was cloudy this morning —as I see was the same luck with many—, but forecasts indicate that tonight shall still provide some shooting stars to watch.
Anyway, do not despair or wait till the Quadrantids in January! The Geminids are just 3 weeks away, and the forecast here indicates a whopping visibility of 130+ meteors/hour in the countryside, and 50+ in the suburbs! But that shall be another goal… ;)

in the sense that I knew it was happening, I was prepared for it, I was excited about it, and I shared it with others.
Unfortunately, it was too cloud covered to see much of anything in the sky except clouds.
So I am going to check WORTH DOING because I watched for it, enjoyed the build-up, and now have a far greater awareness of more meteor showers than the Perseids, which was – until now, the only calendared meteor shower I knew.
Thank you so much for the invitation!

It seems the next meteor opportunity will be Quadrantids, January 3-4. I hope I don’t have to work that night!

This just wasn’t my year to watch the Leonids. The clouds and the lights conspired against me. I have decided to plan better for next year. Although it looks like the Perseids (August 12 – 13) and the Leonids (November 17-18) will both occur under a nearly full moon, it appears that the Quadrantids (January 3-4) might be worth a view this year.

really mixes me up! I’m glad I checked back on this goal and found that the peak is Sat/Sun, not Sun/Mon. The weather forecast is essentially the same, so are the plans. Happy skywatching to all!
