Lessons from Chpt 1: If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive 1 month ago

1. When asking for something always be polite and kind. Authority raises resentment and resistance.

2. Criticisms of others do not go far. They are either returned or justified by others in an attempt to free oneself from the responsibilities of their actions.

3. It takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving, while anyone can criticize, condemn and complain.

4. Summary: Instead of judging and criticizing others, try to see things from their understanding of it. Remember that they are only doing what they know to do.

Favorite quote: “Don’t complain about the snow on your neighbors roof when your own doorstep is unclean.” -Confucius

time to read 1 month ago

I bought this book last year at the suggestion of a friend. I just found it the other day in a box of books and think its time to read it

I’m so very proud to report I’ve made it one third of the way through this book in three days. It isn’t easy to read, but I’m getting so much out of it.

I’m also taking notes which I’d be glad to share with anyone who wants them.

Half way yay

I'm about half way through... 2 years ago

There’s heaps of good ideas in it. Some times I think “but wouldn’t that make me a push over if I do that?” I guess I’ll have to finish it to se how it all fits together.

My father... 2 years ago

has been increadibly successful in life in many ways.
Only three years in the military, straight up to officer and was awarded three metals of honor.
You know, that sort of person.

He tells me that it’s because every day on his way to work, he would take the bus, and he would read, and re-read “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.

From reading some of it myself (only a couple of chapters), and already understanding many of the principals through other contexts I’ve encountered, I can see how he would owe this book so much of his success in life.

He applies the principals very well to this very day, and I’m happy to say that he has a very successful family because of it; with whom he laughs often.

So as ADD as I am, and as painful as it really is for me to read something that’s not basically just random webpage stuff or broken up poetry, I’m trying to focus and study this book, as he did.
I think I’ve already picked up a lot just from being his daughter…but I’d still like to get the source guideline down ;)
