I just started taking a class online over correspondences in magick. I’ve already studied the basics of this years ago, but the class is a requirement for other classes on the site I’m at. However, I’m thinking it will be very helpful to me on refreshing my knowledge on the meanings and correspondences on everything. Maybe I’ll even learn something new! 7 months ago

I used to love scrying with mirrors when I was younger but I dislike using regular sized mirrors and I lost the one I used to use. So my guy made me a traditional styled one from a small picture frame. Basically you remove the glass from the frame and spray paint the back black. This causes the front side to be a nice and shiny black surface that is perfect for scrying. Then you just put it all back together. Its quick, cheap and works wonders. :) 8 months ago

I’ve been taking online witch classes from a free site for a while now. I just finished the second part to the basic Wicca course they have available. While I already know the basics, I am taking it to make sure it is worth recommending to beginners as well as to refresh my mind on everything I studied so long ago. It is always good to review. Plus it is a requirement to take their more advanced classes that I wish to take some day. I’m also one assignment away from finishing up a class on altars and just asked to join a class on doing fortune telling with playing cards – which should be fun. 9 months ago

Well, I went to Austin, Tx last weekend and ended up in a magick store. The owner was so friendly and was really helpful. I picked up two new books on witchcraft and a package of wormwood herb. After my friends and I chatted with the owner about where we were from and about our coven, she actually gifted us a box that contained a blank book of shadows and candle holders!

I picked up like 5 books from a half priced bookstore while on the trip as well – all on witchy topics. I also purchased a deck of cards on totem animals and a french tarot (that I can’t read the instructions too!). Planning to get my reading on soon! lol

I also just got done reading “The World of Wizards” by Anton and Mina Adams that I borrowed from the upstairs neighbor. It is a whole book about more wizard like subjects – astronomy, alchemy, talismans, etc. It looks like it was written for young adults and teens, but I loved it anyway. I learned a lot about alchemy that I didn’t know and I now understand why my little brother loves it so much. 11 months ago

I’ve been a witch since I was 13 years old thanks to a friend who was raised as one – this puts me at 12 years in witchcraft. Since then I converted to Wicca at age 15 and later began practicing a form of witchcraft known as Hedge Witchery. However, one can always further their studies and become a better witch, so here I am. :) 11 months ago

The following is a version of the Wiccan Creation Story. Most Wiccans follow the Italian Wiccan Creation Story, but I found this one to include the same events and just as enjoyable

Long, long ago, the world slept in the arms of the dark void.
From this place of nothingness, Spirit drew together and created Our Lady of Infinite Love.
The Lady danced among the heavens, Her feetbeating out the rythmn of all creation. Sparks of light catapaulted from Her hair, giving birth to the stars and planets. As She twirled, these heavenly bodies began to move with Her in the divine symphony of the universe. When Her dancing quickened She formed the seas and mountains of Earth. She chanted words of love and joy, and as these sounds fell to the Earth, the trees and flowers were born.
From the pure, white light of Her breath came the colors of the universe, turning all things to vibrant beauty. from the bubbling laughter in Her throat sprang the sounds of the pristine running water of the streams, the gentle lapping vibrations of the lake, and the roaring screams of the oceans. Her tears of joy became the rains of our survival.
When Her dancing slowed and She sought a companion to share the wonders of the world, Spirit created The Lord as Her lifemate and companion. Because She so loved the Earth, Spirit made Her companion half spirit, half animal, so that together the Lord and Lady could populate our planet. The Lord’s power moves through her and She showers the Earth and all upon it with Her blessings. Together, the Lord and Lady gave birth to the birds, animals, fishes, and people of our world. To protect and guide the humans, the Lord and Lady created the angels and power spirits. These energies walk with us always, though we may not often see them. Their speech creates a tapestry of positve energy, from which we draw strength.
To each bird the Lady gave a magic song, and to each animal the Lord bestowed the instinct to survive.
The Lord is the master of the animal and plant kingdoms, and therefore wears the antlers of a stag crowning His great head. This aspect of half man, half animal shows His joy in both the human and animal creations of the Spirit.
As the humans began to grow and prosper, the Lord and Lady saw a need for healers among them. And so they drew forth energy from the realm of angels, the realm of the power animals, and the realm of the humans to create the Witches. The Witches brought with them the wisdom of the Lord and Lady, the ability to heal, and the art of magic. The Lady taught the Witches how to cast a magic circle and talk to Spirit, and the Lord taught the Witches how to communicate with the energies of air, fire, earth, and water, and commune with the animal and plant kingdoms.
At first, the humans accepted the Witches and treated them fairly; but because the Witches are different, humans began to fear the Wise Ones of the Lord and Lady, thus the Witches became the Hidden Children, conducting their rites of positive energy in secret lest they risk capture and death at the hands of uneducated humans.
As the world grew darker with ignorance and hate of human creation, The Lady took the body of the Moon to represent the gentle light of her perfect peace, and the Lord took the vibrant rays of the Sun as his symbol of strength in perfect love. And once a month, when the Moon is full, the Witches celebrate and remember the blessings our Mother has bestowed upon us.
We call forth Her energy to help us take care of ourselves, our families, our planet, and our friends. Four times a year the Witches celebrate the festivals of fire and honor the Lord and His love for us – these are called the cross-quarters. At the four quarters of the seasons, the Witches honor the cycle of life and the gifts of the Earth with festivals to both the Lord and Lady – signifying the balance they have brought us – the Equinoxes and the Solstices.
The Lady has many names – Isis, Astarte, Bride, Diana, Aradia, Hecate – and the Lady walks within and beside each woman of every race.
The Lord has many faces, from the strong Cernunnos to the delightful Pan. He guards and guides us and resides in each man of every race.
When thunder roars in the heavens, and lightning cracks from the ground, the Lord and Lady dance the divine myth of creation so that we may remember them and know that we are never alone.
When the Sun rises each morning, we bask in the joy of His love for us, and when the Moon moves through Her phases, we understand the cycle of birth, growth, death, and rebirth.
When it is our time, the Witches enter the Summerland. From the Spirit that moves and flows through the Lord and Lady we continue to learn the mysticism of the Universe so that we may return, life after life, to serve our brothers and sisters.
In each lifetime, Spirit guides us through learning experiences, preparing us along the way for our individual missions. Sometimes we are born among our own kind, and in other instances we must seek out our spiritual family. Many of us do not remeber our chosen path until we reach adulthood, but others know instinctively of their heritage from the time they form their own thoughts.
We are the Witches, the representation of the growth of wisdom on our planet. We are the Hidden Children, back from the dead. We are the people, the power, the change, and we have incarnated in every race and every culture. We are the angels of Earth.

BOM: How did the story make you feel? How can it’s symbolism be applied to modern life? Thoughts? 15 months ago

Today we’re going to go in depth about the God and Goddess; their names, associations, meanings, purposes, etc.

The God is the representational being of all that is Masculine and He is associated with the elements Air and Fire. He has four forms: The Horned One is the name of His most common form which describes his appearance of deer legs and deer antlers with a human male body. This signifies His connection with the animals of the wood and his antlers symbolize His knowledge and connection to Wisdom.   This image was taken by Christian Priests and used as the image of the Devil in order to scare people away from the pagan ways. There is NO description of the Devil depicting him as a half man half goat, and originally he was depicted with blue skin since he was so far away from the warmth of the Christian God; there is a description of him in his angel form that describes him as unbelievably attractive. The Green Man is more common in the Celtic based traditions and is seen as a green, leafy, happy face. This is in reference to his domain, the woods and the land, watching over it’s creatures. The last two forms coincide with each other; The Oak King and Holly King.  You may remember me mentioning it yesterday in the Wiccan Rede. These two phases represent the phases of change for all men. The Oak King represents the youthful, ambitious, adventurous, excited first half of a man’s life. The Holly King represents the older, slower, wiser, calmer second half of a man’s life. After I learned about these two phases of the God, I started thinking about men in society and how this concept applied. I found that men tend to be adventurous, exciting, and childlike (let’s face it, women “grow up” a lot sooner than men do) until they hit mid-life and have a crisis about their struggle for identity (which is like the fight between the Oak and Holly Kings at Litha). Eventually, men realize that they have to step aside for the new generation of men and teach them their knowledge and wisdom. All of the beliefs in Wicca are based on observances in Nature like that. 

The Goddess is representative of all this Feminine and She is associated with the elements Earth and Water (The God and Goddess together create the element Spirit). She also has four forms: The Maiden is Her first form, a young, beautiful, elegant, caring, sweet, and explores the adventures of Nature. She represents new beginnings, a young mind, potential, and the first stage of women (either from birth to their first child, or from their first period to their first child). The Mother is Her second form, wiser, knowledgable, nurturing, abundant, skillful, and ever watching. She represents balance, abundance, a guiding hand,  universal love and the second stage of women (when they have their first child or hit about 30 until menopause). The Crone is Her third form, wise, cunning, crafty, advanced in Her magick, and connected to the dead and to the changes of the Earth. She represents the secret Wisdom of Nature and the skill of divination. The fourth phase is Mother Goddess, this is different than Her “The Mother” form because Mother Goddess is the Almighty Being, the one who gave birth to the God, and supreme deity.

Today we will learn about the Wiccan Rede, sorta like a Wiccan’s commandments. We will discuss what each part means and how they apply to the religion and to our life.

“Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give. ”
The first phrase is talking about how all Wiccans must follow the Law of Goddess, the Rede, in a manor out of love for the God and Goddess and Their creature, as well as Trust in the God and Goddess. This peaceful nature is reiterated in the second sentence about letting people and creatures live the way they deem fitting, and encouraging harmony.

“For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme. ”
This part refers to ritual and spellwork. Before rituals and spells, a Circle is cast to protect the Witch from harmful energies while she is in a vulnerable state. For the most effective Circle, it should be cast, created, three times (we will go over this at a later time. As for spells, to be most effective, the incantation should be said in rhyme.

“Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name, let love and light be our guides again. ”
The first sentence of this phrase talks about how Wiccans are not to judge on appears and should not act on physical violence; they should teach, or Preach, only for those who are listening and should listen to what others have to say more so than tell them who and what to listen to. This also applies to nature; instead of directing Nature or trying to control it, listen and flow with it.

“Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane. ”
This phrase talks about the meaning of the waxing (growing) and waning (shrinking) moon phases. Deodsil means clockwise, and a clockwise motion draws energy in; so the Waxing moon is meant to bring things to you.  Widdershin means counter-clockwise, a motion of protection/banishing/getting rid of; the Waning moon is meant drive out energies, a time for protection and banishing.

“When the Lady’s moon is new, kiss the hand to Her times two.
When the moon rides at Her peak then your heart’s desire seek. ”
This phrase talks about the meanings of the New and Full Moon. The New Moon, aka Dark Moon, is a time of rest and to just honor the Goddess. The Full Moon is a time when energy is at its peak and spells should be done for maximum potency.

“Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast. ”
This phrase is a bit about divination; using the direction of the wind to determine what’s to come. A wind coming from the North, and blowing towards the South, means trouble or a storm, and that it’s best to stay inside. A wind coming from the East, blowing towards the West, means new beginnings, good changes, or perhaps new people. It is a time of joy and good fortune.

“When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest. ”
This phrase continues the meaning of the Winds in corespondence with the meaning of the directions and their associated elements.  A wind coming from the South, and blowing towards the North, means new passions or a new lover, perhaps an old flame, or family is coming. This could also mean new ambitions. A wind coming from the West, and blowing towards the East, is a time of cleansing a balance, quarrels or legal matters will be settled, something’s may come to an end.

“Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows. ”
This phrase talks about the Nine Sacred Woods that can be burned during Sabbats and Esbats. Birch wood is burnt to represent the Goddess, our Lady.

“Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God’s
insight.   Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower. ”
Oak is burnt to represent the God and to bring enlightenment. Rowan is burnt to draw in magick and brings about change.

“Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye. ”
Willows are burnt at Crossings, Wiccan Funerals, to guide the dead spirit to rest in Summerland, Wiccan Heaven. Hawthorn is burnt to consecrate and purify anything within its flames or smoke. It also draws in Faeries.

“Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning adds its strength to the bright fire burning. White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility. ”
Hazel is burnt to heighten our minds and to unlock the secrets of Nature. Apple is burnt to bring love and to promote fertility; fertility in the body, in the land, in the workplace, etc.

“Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine. Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen. ”
Wood from a grape plant is burnt to signify thankfulness and happiness. Fir/Pine/Evergreen is burnt to represent incarnation, which essentially make us immortal, as well as the ever steadiness of Goddess.

“Elder is the Lady’s tree burn it not or cursed you’ll be.
Four times the Major Sabbats mark in the light and in the dark. ”
Elder is the most sacred of woods and should not be burned or misfortune will fall upon you (though, they make very powerful wands). The Major Sabbats mark the middle /peak of seasons, and are the Fire Festivals.

“As the old year starts to wane the new begins, it’s now Samhain.
When the time for Imbolc shows watch for flowers through the snows. ”
When the year seasonally ends and the last of the crop is pulled in, we know that it is Samhain (Sow-en), a time to honor the dead, mid-Autumn, and the last Harvest Festival. When it is cold out, but we feel and see the stirring of life in the animals we know that it is Imbolc (Im-ball-k), a time to honor Brigid and mid-Winter.

“When the wheel begins to turn soon the Beltane fires will burn. As the wheel turns to Lammas night power is brought to magick rite. ”
When Spring is in full bloom, it is time to celebrate the season by burning fires at Beltane. Lammas, meaning Loaf-mas (much of bread and wheat), it is a time when the nights are getting darker and the power of the Goddess grows stronger. It is the first of the Harvest Festivals.

“Four times the Minor Sabbats fall use the Sun to mark them all. When the wheel has turned to Yule, light the log, the Horned One rules. ”
The Minor Sabbats celebrate the beginnings of Seasons, using the sun to determine the Summer and Winter Solstices as well as the Autumn and Spring Equinoxes. At Yule, the Winter Solstice, we honor the new born Sun/Horned God by burning a log that is to last all night.

“In the spring, when night equals day time for Ostara to come our way.
When the Sun has reached it’s height time for Oak and Holly to fight. ”
The Vernal/Spring Equinox marks equal day and night, and the first day of Spring, is the day of Ostara to celebrate Spring and fertility. The Summer Solstice is call Litha and is when the young Oak King of the growing year battles the old Holly King of the dying year.

“Harvesting comes to one and all when the Autumn Equinox does fall.
Heed the flower, bush, and tree by the Lady blessed you’ll be. ”
The Autumn Equinox is called Mabon (May-bon), and is like a Wiccan Thanksgiving. This is the Second Harvest Festival, the peak of the harvesting season, and is a time to honor the food received from the Goddess and to give thanks for all we have.

“Where the rippling waters go, cast a stone, the truth you’ll know. When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed. ”
If you should ever have trouble in life, divine (like using tarot, runes, crystal ball, etc.) and the Goddess will provide counsel and advice. Do not go to others who will most likely use you or feed you lies for their own gain.

“With a fool no season spend or be counted as his friend. Merry Meet and Merry Part bright the cheeks and warm the heart.”
Do not waste your time or be associated with ignorant people, these are people who are not understanding and are close minded. Be peaceful, Merry, in all of your greetings and farewells to stay happy and harmonious.

“Mind the Three-fold Laws you should, three times bad and three times good. When misfortune is enow, wear the star upon your brow.”
Follow the Three-Fold Law, which is for every good deed you will receive goodness, for every negative deed you will receive negativity. When there is trouble though, keep the pentacle close to you for protection and luck.

“Be true in love this you must do unless your love is false to you. 
These Eight words the Rede fulfill: 
“An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will”“ 
Be true in your intentions and devotion, if you know your love is not true and pure, it shall be your undoing. “An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will” is the most famous and well known “rule” in the Wiccan religion. There is much controversy over it’s meaning, but here is my understanding: Your Will is your spiritual journey towards enlightenment and Wisdom, and to get to that goal you will not physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually harm another person intentionally. This means you can shoot someone in the leg out of self defense (or something of the like), but you can not cast a spell to make someone believe in the same religion/give them small pox, etc. or harm them with out magick because they insulted your spirituality or religion, etc.

BOM: What is your interpretation of “Harming None”? What are your thoughts about the Rede? What are some things you learned about Wicca that you didn’t know before reading this post? 15 months ago

Not too many people know anything about Wicca, which is probably why it seems so mysterious to people. Let’s start with some common misconceptions:
-Wiccans are Satanists: False. This rumor was started by Christians who mistook the Wiccan Pentacle for the Satanist Pentacle (which I will eloborate later) and who confused their image of Satan with the Horned God (again, I will elaborate later).
-Wiccans hold human and animal sacrifices: False. In preChristian times, during harsh times a person from a tribe would volunteer or be chosen as a sacrifice to please the Gods. This person was well fed, treated like royalty, and held with high honor leading up to the sacrifice. It was viewed as an important job because it was believed that this selfless act would save the entire tribe. Today, due to both Wiccan and American law, human and animal sacrifices no longer exists, though sacrifices are made in other ways.
-A Wiccan’s purpose is to curse others and bring misfortune: False. It is against Wiccan beliefs to harm others, but there is controversy over whether this includes physical, mental, and/or emotional. We also believe in karma.
Now that we know what Wicca isn’t, let’s discover what Wicca IS. Wicca was created by Gerard Gardener in the 1950’s and is a combination of celtic paganism and Druidism, faiths that predate Christianity which is why it is referred to as the Old Religion. Wicca respects the Earth and it’s Wisdom and believe in a God and a Goddess, though we hold the Goddess in slightly higher respect than the God (some covens only worship the Goddess). Wiccans believe in a balance of constructive and destructive (instead of good and evil), has 8 holidays honoring the seasonal changes called Sabbats (Sah-bats or Sah-bots), 12/13 holidays honoring the Full/New Moons of the year, and believe use magick to better out lives and the lives of others. As we go further along this journey we will learn more about the beliefs in depth.
In your Book of Mirrors (BOM) I want you to write down what you thought Wiccans were before this entry, what do you think of the beliefs, and how these beliefs would effect your life. Are these effects positive or negative? 15 months ago

We’re going to start off the training by making a choice; to learn the wisdom of the Earth or not. By making this conscious choice to take this path you are making an oath to learn and explore with an open mind, to accept the challenges that lay ahead, to treat this knowledge with respect, and to see this to the end. If you have any skepticism, any negative views, or your instincts tell you not to walk this path, then DO NOT follow these entries. Training in the Wiccan Way, like any religion, is a lifestyle and a major CHOICE. 

I want you to think about whether or not you want to take this path and are willing and ready to see it through. If you are ready, then I want you to take a spiral notebook or special journal and write down why you have chosen to learn the Old Religion and what you expect to get out of this experience. As we walk this journey you will be recording your experiences and findings in this book everyday, Witches call this book The Book of Mirrors (BOM) due to its purpose of providing reflection. I will be referring to your journal by this name.

My Reason for choosing this path: I was 17 at the time, came from a loose Christian background, and was pretty much a Deist when my friend showed me a book about a religion called Wicca. I had done a brief research about the general beliefs and realized I agreed with all of them. I had discovered these beliefs on my own without even knowing Wicca existed, so I knew it was the right religion for me. I decided then that I would do my best to be devoted to the Goddess. 15 months ago

-magickal uses of stones (cleansing them, storing them, etc.)
-magickal uses of incenses (the different types, how to make some, etc.)
-magickal uses of candles and colors (candle magick, how to dress them, etc.)
-magickal uses of oils (how to make infusions)
-tools, their uses, elements, history.
-Sabbats, what they are, how to celebrate, their history
-Esbats, what they are, how to celebrate, both full and New moon
-Rituals, their purpose and how to perform them (Circle casting, etc.)
-Divination, different tools and techniques
-chants, common ones and their purpose
-prayer/blessing, how to and their purpose
-spells, how they work, how to cast them, how to create them, their purpose
-Wicca and Christianity, history and misconceptions.
-Salem Witch Trials
-Healing, herbal rememdies, crystal therapy, chakras, aromatherapy

please could someone tell me how to become a witch 19 months ago

I have always been different—I know that. I’ve never been normal, and it took me years to find out why. When I finally did, it was a very sudden realization that hit me: There’s magic within me. Something intensely powerful is apart of me, and it’s something a lot of other people want.
And it terrifies me. Even with though I accept it now, I’m afraid of what might happen to me. I went to a psychic once, and she told me that in her thirty-years of practice, she had never met someone so “radiant” with power and strength. I asked her how I could control it, and she said it would take me more time than she had left on this Earth to teach me how to handle something so strong. People I come in contact with, whether part of my inner circle of magic or not, know that I’m not normal, and now it’s getting to the point where my parents can tell.
I want to talk about all the things I do, but I don’t want to sound crazy…
Can anyone help me train? Maybe even just talk to me without judgment? It would be greatly appreciated. <3 22 months ago
