How I did it: I first got into SCUBA to assist the fire department that I was working for. I then started doing it under better conditions and fell in love with the feeling. It is a different world. All of my stuff at the time was bought for me, so there was no financial problem. I dont work there anymore so I am in the process of buying my own gear. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I took a class over one weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings). After getting the skills down, a group of us took a trip with an instructor over the next weekend. We did a handful of dives and now we're certified! And now I have a new friend and dive buddy from the class. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I did it through my college, Westminster College, which worked with Scott Scuba. 4 hour lessons, once a week for about 3 months. Then an Open Dive, now I have my certification. Read how I did it…
How I did it: for my 16 birthday my parents took me to the bahamas. It was a deal that I get an amazing beach and get to scuba dive. I dived twice. once in a 10 ft deep reef, the second in a 43 ft shark dive. it was purely amazing. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I went to a nearby dive shop and signed up for classes. This was an SSI certification which is not quite as popular as PADI in the US, but I think that when you are actually diving it doesn't make a huge difference either way. There was a small test involving treading water and swimming. I noticed that though there is not a lot of actual swimming involved with diving that the class members who did not swim as well seemed… Read how I did it…

Planning on doing the certification this weekend.
Last weekend was a lot of fun, and I haven’t even really been diving yet.
So I did a little research and got in touch with an instructor. Met with him today and will hopefully start classes next week. I am a little scared…I am making a serious commitment financially, as well as physically. Will have to improve my swimming as well…But I said I wanted to do it…so here goes!
The class starts with theory of about 15 hours, so that will take me about another month (a few hours per week)...then pool training maybe another few weeks… and then finally…open water!!!! I get a little scared just thinking about it. I need to keep telling myself that I will see it through.
Taking the class this weekend… still need to workout the when/where of getting certified.
I really want to dive, I moved closer to the sea and there are companies around here that dive wrecks which would be really wonderful to do. My only problem…I suck at swimming. I guess I just have to get out and swim more than perhaps I can ease my way up to getting licensed to dive.
Snorkeling is cool, but SCUBA has got to be better. I’ve done bell diving where you walk on the ocean floor with huge head gear that air is pumped into (imagine brass helmet)and it was amazingly loud. And very amazing. I even had a (tame) moray eel twine around my wrist.

I don’t know if I could ever do this or not. Would love to try one time.
I live about ten minutes from the Gulf of Mexico- moving to Massachusetts in the fall. I want to do this before I go away!
i think this would just be a fun experience. i am obsessed with animals so i love to be around them, even if it is marine life. aquariums are fun to observe pretty fish so this would be amazing. i am going to try and get certified this summer so that i can scuba dive on my honeymoon. i would never forget that kind of experience
