I saw an image of this statue 1 week ago

in a 43thinger’s flickr account and had to look to see where it is located. Found a similar image in an unrelated blog page too, so I’ll use it for the quiz. Where is this?

No peeking, but this is the source of the image: http://tinyurl.com/5usr2n

    Explosive! 6 months ago

At an elevation of over 4,000 feet, this “hotspot” has been continually active since 1983, living up to it’s name, which translates to “much spreading”. Not surprisingly, it is the most visited site of it’s type in the world. It’s not on my list of places to go “yet”, but it should (and will) be.

Where in the world are we?

I can see my house from here 8 months ago

I lived in this city as a kid. What is the city?

Edit: it is a whole bunch of cities, pick the one that dominates.

    that peninsula?

Space Shuttle, December 2006 8 months ago

A friend of mine sent me this picture (along with a bunch of others) – it is probably making the rounds. What is that land mass we are seeing down below?

Edit: not pictured: the space shuttle :) It would be the Discovery if it were pictured. The structure is the International Space Station.

I scribbled over a placename on this map – what did it say?

    Engineering Ingenuity 8 months ago

This engineering marvel, completed in 1880, was designed – with specifications written and work laid out – within 16 days of the request, and was built in three years. In service for more than 80 years as a vital link in the development of its remote and difficult region, it is now classified as an historic structure. It is also famous for a ‘first ’ in a popular commercial sport.

If I give too many clues, this one would be extremely easy for at least one of you, so I’m holding back some of them for now. Bonus points (or a bonus kiss, if you’re Markov) for answering why this particular “engineering marvel” is of special interest to me.

    Four Minarets 9 months ago

Another picture from Wikipedia – my cell phone is not willing to release its photos.

This building is in Hyderabad, India. Its name means literally ‘four minarets’, so what is its name?

Buddha in the Lake 9 months ago

I left my camera in Bangalore when I went to another office for a few days (I have not done a good job of taking photos here, I have a few on my cell phone, but filled up its memory pretty quickly), so this picture is from Wikipedia. The statue of the Buddha is 16 meters tall, and was sculpted just a few decades ago.

What is the name of the lake/reservoir that this sculpture is in?
