How to camp in a tent
How I did it: Different people have different ideas of what "camping" entails. For some, driving a motor home to a park, watching TV, having hot showers, and cooking on a range would be considered "camping". Not so for me. If I go camping I want to go back to basics. Camping should involve a tent, a sleeping bag, and a backpack. Meals should be cooked over a fire, or possibly some sort of Coleman grill. The fanciest bathroom you see should be an outhouse and your shower/tub should be a lake or a stream. If you feel you need entertainment (other than exploring your surroundings), bring a book. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you... Camping is pretty straightforward; find a spot, pitch a tent, make a fire, enjoy!
Lessons & tips: Try not to pitch your tent over rocks.
If the ground is very hard, try piling some leaves and whatnot on the ground before you put the tent up.
Dome tents are great!
Make sure your sleeping bag is weather appropriate.
Make sure you have a way of keeping your food safe from wildlife.
Take advantage of your surroundings; hike, go birdwatching, fish, kayak, stargaze, whatever!
