I didn’t practice for a week and feel like I’ve regressed a month. Hopefully it’ll come back with a snowballing vengeance.

I haven’t had a lesson in a month. I need to practice. Going to see the concert at the CSO reminded me that I had such a long way to go. And rather than discourage me, it encouraged me.

Hurrah! 4 months ago

This is hard, because I’ve had a few months of lessons, am not yet good enough to start out on my own, but I’m learning, practicing almost every day and feel like I’m improving by leaps and bounds.

I’m not there yet, but feel awesome about it.

Go me.

It was hard at first, but it’s getting better. This is the hardest instrument I’ve learned… or maybe I have too much pride now that I’m older.

Okay, I have trouble practicing, the laziness always overcomes my passion for violin. Gotta practice more!

i started doing some online lessons, just so that when i get to my actual lessons i wont be woefully ignorant of this instrument.

stringsavvy.com has some neat stuff on youtube. although you need the book they want you to buy to follow along, it’s easy to write down the music they’re giving you if you’re really patient.

also i read this artical about Joshua Bell and how he preformed in a subway station or something. it was pretty cool.

i got a violin for christmas today! 6 months ago

i’ve always talked about how much i loved the instrument and how much i’ve wanted to play since i was about 5, and my mom went out and bought me a brand new violin (its gorgeous) and two start up lessons. i was in shock for about 45 minutes, and then i felt safe enough to take it out of it’s case and we realized that none of us knew how to make it sound like a violin. we pulled the bow across the strings and it just sounded quiet and breathy. but i’ll figure it out with lessons. as of now i know absolutely nothing about the violin but my whole family is musical and i know i’ll love it once i learn to make it make sound hahaha :)

It is exactly 7 months from my first lesson and I am still playing and still loving it. The violin is a far more complex instrument than I could have ever imagined but it is worth the time, practice and effort. Took it on a recent trip back home for its first official debut, played Happy Birthday at party for a family member. Yeah, it is not much but it is a start. ;)
