the History Channel 2 weeks ago

had a new special called “Super City: New York.” Really interesting. From pre-history to the future, how geology, geography, natural forces & human activities have made Manhattan what it is.

The surface is only the beginning. Even if all humans died tomorrow, the evidence of human activity would live on in the countless miles of tunnel work & underground engineering in the bedrock.

Fascinating blend of history & science & technology. A very unique place.

WICKED!!!! 3 weeks ago

The tour is a package – we will go & do a lot of things, a sample of NYC, but a tour package. One of the things is a Broadway play. I have hoped that it would not be something depressing. It is a tour aimed at old people, I had no idea what they would get tickets for, but hoped it would at least be something I liked.

Today I learned what play, they got tickets for Wicked! I am so excited as this is THE play I would choose, given a choice. I finally get to see the play & not even locally – but on Broadway!!!

I loved the book Wicked, love the Oz stories, the movie with Judy Garland. This will probably be the high point of the trip for me now. I now have got to re-read the book. I am going to Wicked!!!! happy dance

traffic is detoured from an arterial street onto my street. I found myself describing the traffic as being ‘as busy as Grand Central Station.’

I decided I will not use that phrase again until I have stand in or outside Grand Central Station.

True, it’s not a big hardship or sacrifice, but means more in my own mind than it might seem.

I’m here. We went to The Strand and this week we’re going to the Museum of Sex (“They have the best gift shop”). And waterfalls tomorrow. WATERFALLS.

A friend and a relative 1 month ago

are each taking trips to the East Coast in Sep/Oct. One to CT, VT, ME – I’m not sure if that’s all, but it’s a 2-weeker. The other is going to NYC, NJ, and, I think, VA.

There is no logical reason why I cannot get my arse on a plane to go someplace I’ve wanted to go for so long a time. No logical reason. Logic never stopped me from refusing to do it before, but I am determined to get this puppy DONE! before i’m, like, um, before i turn 40, or 50 – or maybe 60. Shit…

Preparation for my trip to NYC 1 month ago

I am starting to think about clothes to wear. We will be on a bus a lot of the time. I am seriously thinking sweats. I am trying to figure out from the list of activities what else I will need. I imagine I will need something dressy for the Broadway play. I wonder how dressed down I can get away with, I am not big on dressing up, especially when traveling.

I (heart) NY 1 month ago

I did this two years ago. I was there for only two days. It was enough time to tour Manhatten. I would love to go again.

I’m going to spend a week in New York with one of my favorite people in the world. I can’t imagine a better way to get to know a city for the first time.

In a fantasy mood, 1 month ago

I checked on flight & hotel info for visiting NYC. Not so cheap, of course! I fantasized just booking a flight & hotel w/o much notice, just for a couple of days, to see if that kind of spur of the moment travel plan seemed easier or more difficult to follow through with.

Some friends nabbed a double room at the Grand Hyatt NY for less that $100 per night on a Priceline name your own price deal last year. ~why didn’t I just go along with them?

Where else could I attempt a quick trip? Hmm. Maybe Austin & vicinity. A few things I’d like to do there. Chicago, maybe, although I know less about it, I’ve heard tons positive info abt it. South Carolina – ditto on the raves.
